Ringgold claims seventh straight win over Heritage

The Ringgold football team defeated visiting Heritage on Friday night, 44-23, to earn its seventh consecutiv­e win over the Generals.

Junior quarterbac­k Devin Lancaster led the Tigers by throwing for 141 yards on 8-of-10 passing. He had a 56-yard touchdown pass and added a second score on a 1-yard run.

Garrett Yates was Lancaster’s top target with four catches for 103 yards, including the touchdown. D.L. Goins had 81 yards rushing on eight carries, followed by 80 yards on eight attempts by Nathan Bello. Kile Sholl added 66 yards on 14 carries.

Heritage (0-1) had a highlight with a 99-yard touchdown pass from Corbee Wilson to Christian King.

Ringgold is off this week, while Heritage will head to LFO for another Catoosa County rivalry game.

Southeast 22, Murray County 21

The Raiders moved to 2-0 for the second straight year, but not before having to hold off a stern challenge from the Indians.

Murray County drove from its own 24 to the Southeast 20 in the final seconds, but Colter Faith saved the game for the Raiders with an intercepti­on.

Will Swantic had a TD pass in the win, while Tyler Brown added a TD run. The Southeast defense also recorded an important safety in the second quarter.

Pickens 42, White County 34

Georgia Tech commitment Shannon Brooks showed why he is arguably the top player in Region 7-AAAA by running 25 times for 304 yards and four touchdowns to help the Dragons (1-0) to a win in Cleveland.

Pickens led 42-20 in the second half only to see the Warriors score two straight touchdowns to tighten up the game. However, White County couldn’t recover a late onside kick, allowing the Dragons to run out the clock.

Cartersvil­le 41, Cass 7

The Purple Hurricanes (1-0) outgained the Colonels in the first half, 297-7 in total yardage, to lead 28-0..

Kansas State pledge Kalen Heath had seven catches for 117 yards and 13 rushes for 60 yards and a pair of scores. Tiamon Pennymon ran for 68 yards and added 76 receiving.

Miller Forristall and Trevor Lawrence split the quarterbac­king du- ties. Forristall, a junior, was 9-of-10 for 180 yards with the freshman Lawrence going 8-of-10 for 93 yards.

Gilmer 41, Fannin County 7

Russell Cochran ran for scores of 42, 6, 23 and 30 yards and quarterbac­k Chris James added a 55-yard TD run in the Bobcats’ season-opening win.

Garrett Rigdon had a 70-yard intercepti­on return for a score to lead the defensive effort for Gilmer (1-0).

Trion 34, Armuchee 7

The Bulldogs (2-0) scored on three of their first four possession­s and led 27-0 early in the third quarter in the rout. Gabe Howell rushed 11 times for 142 yards and a score in the win.

The Indians (0-2) got their lone points on a 69-yard fumble return by Will Phillips.

Darlington 40, Bremen 20

The Tigers (1-1) rolled up 513 total yards of offense with running back Trey Edge running 15 times for 148 yards and three scores.

Hunter Manning ran seven times for 80 yards and one TD and passed for 119 yards and two touchdowns on 7-of-9 throwing. The defense also helped out with three intercepti­ons.

Model 21, Sonoravill­e 10

Nakyle Watkins scored on two 5-yard runs and added a 1-yard plunge as the Devils overcame a 10-7 halftime deficit for a win over the Class AAA Phoenix.

Jamaunn Bailey had an intercepti­on for Model (2-0) in the win.

Dade County 41, North Sand Mountain 6

First season-opening win since 2011 with an easy win over the Bison.

Dade County (1-0) will take on another outof-state opponent when they travel to Robbinsvil­le, NC next week in preparatio­n for a game at Ridgeland on Sept. 12.
