LaFayette falls at Heritage, keeps pace with walkoff win over Southeast

- By Scott Herpst

The LaFayette Lady Ramblers saw their modest two-game winning streak come to an end last Tuesday night with a 2-0 loss to Heritage in Boynton.

The Generals scored once in the top of the first as Olivia Tamewitz hit a leadoff triple and scored on a sacrifice fly. They would add one final run in the bottom of the sixth on a LaFayette error.

LaFayette missed two chances to score in the late innings. They left two runners in scoring position in the top of the sixth and had runners at second and third with two outs in the top of the seventh, only to see Tamewitz make a spectacular catch in left-centerfield to end the game.

Victoria Day suffered the loss after allowing just six hits in six innings. Madison Harris was 2-for-3 at the plate with a pair of doubles. Summer Goins doubled and Carlie Campbell and E.J, Ratledge each singled in the loss.

Shalya Ludy ripped a run-scoring triple in the bottom of the seventh inning to account for the only run of the game as the Lady Ramblers scratched out a walk-off win over Southeast Whitfield in a Region 7-AAAA home game on Thursday.

Pinch hitter Ziyah Underwood led off the seventh with a walk and promptly stole second, setting the table for Ludy’s heroics.

Day continued her solid pitching in the circle, improving to 5-4 on the season after tossing a four-hitter with no walks and one strikeout. In her last 20 innings, Day has allowed just two earned runs.

Ludy and Kayleigh Goff each went 2-for-3 for the Lady Ramblers, while Campbell and Harris had one hit apiece.

LaFayette (7-4, 3-2) is scheduled to play at Pickens on Tuesday before hosting Cartersville on Thursday. First pitch is set for 5:55 p.m. both nights.
