LaFayette continuing to improve as season nears midway point

After an 0-7 start to the season, the LaFayette Lady Ramblers are beginning to find their stride

LaFayette dropped the first set this past Tuesday night, but rallied to win the next three as they claimed a non-region victory at Chattooga in a best-offive-match.

After losing the first set, 25-22, the Lady Ramblers win three straight sets by scores of 25-22, 25-22 and 25-23.

Christina Hannah paced the offense in her first game back from injury, while Taylor Dallas was a consistent server for LaFayette in the victory.

Individual statistics were not available as of press time.

Two nights later, the Orange-and-Black garnered a split on the road in picturesqu­e Blue Ridge.

LaFayette opened with a 25-11, 25-15 loss to host Fannin County, but rebounded with their best win of the season, a 25-12, 25-10 thumping of Chattooga.

Karissa Tatum had four kills and Hannah had two kills against the Lady Rebels.

Against the Lady Indians, Hannah had three kills and scored 12 straight service points with four aces. Jade Maggard collected three kills and one ace.

LaFayette (3-11) will join Armuchee for a trimatch at Gordon Lee on Thursday of this week, starting at 5 p.m.

Oakwood splits seasonopen­ers at home

The Oakwood Christian Lady Eagles began defense of their three straight Southern Christian Athletic Associatio­n volleyball titles this past Tuesday by splitting their home and seasonopen­ing matches.

Oakwood had no trouble with Mountain View Christian in the opener, winning 25-12 and 25-6, but the Lady Eagles ran into a stumbling block against Dogwood Christian School in the nightcap.

OCA dropped the first set to the Tunnel Hill school, 25-23, rebounded for a 25-20 win, but lost 15-9 in the tiebreaker.

B.J. Humphrey had 11 assists, seven aces and five kills on the night. Brooke Case added nine aces and six kills, while Corley Humphrey finished with eight kills.

Other highlights included Kylie Hall (11 aces), Tori Hall (2 aces), Kaylee McSpadden (5 aces) and Savannah Bone (4 aces, 2 digs).

The Lady Eagles (1-1) will be back home again on Thursday for a 6 p.m. match against Apostolic Christian Academy of Maryville (Tenn.).
