Tickets on sale for “Barbra’s Wedding” opening Sept. 18 at Ringgold Playhouse

-

Tickets recently went on sale for The Ringgold Playhouse’s production of “Barbra’s Wedding” by Daniel Stern, which will be the theatre’s final production of its 2014 season at the historic Ringgold Depot.

“We’ve had a great year with “Wait Until Dark” and “The Foreigner,” and we’re excited to close out the season with another great show,” said director and Playhouse founder Adam Cook. “We had an amazing turnout for our last production in June, and we’re looking forward to sharing more theatre with the community in September.”

The play centers on Jerry and Molly Schiff, the only non-celebrities in their ritzy Malibu, Calif., neighborhood. In fact, their shabby beachfront cottage is next door to Barbra Striesand’s mansion.

As the play opens, Jerry is working himself into a frenzy over the media circus surrounding their famous neighbor’s 1998 wedding to James Brolin. Limos are clogging the streets, helicopters hover noisily overhead and news crews are broadcasting from their front lawn. Jerry, an out-of-work television actor whose only claim to fame was a small role as a wacky neighbor in a sitcom, is reminded by all of the commotion of his own obscurity seeing as how he and Molly weren’t even invited to the wedding. Jerry eventually rages against Streisand, Hollywood, the media, his wife, and anything else that comes to mind. An argument ensues, which turns into a full-blown fight with his wife, Molly, which threatens to wreck their marriage. She’d leave if only Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Humvee wasn’t blocking their driveway.

The play, which was written by well-known “Home Alone,” “Diner,” and “Rookie of the Year” actor Daniel Stern, is an anti-show business comedy by a Hollywood insider, which offers up a quirky, hilarious comedy with a happy ending.

Tickets are available online at cityofringgold. com and can be purchased in person between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at Ringgold city hall.
