COMMUNITY· The Friends of the GordonLee Mansion will open the Mansion for tours Saturday, Aug. 27, from 11 am.-3 p.m. All rooms are open and furnished in antebellum period décor. Self-guided tours are $5 adults and $1 under 12 with all proceeds going to promote, preserve and enhance the Mansion. RECREATION · Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park invites the public to attend the fourth local event to celebrate the centennial anniversary of the National Park Service. Teams from the Tennessee Association of Vintage Base Ball will play a special doubleheader in the recreation field at Chickamauga Battlefield Saturday, Aug. 27.

MEETING · The August 2016 monthly meeting of the Walker County Historical Society is Sunday, Aug. 28, at 3 p.m. in the Welcome Center, 309 North Main Street in LaFayette. The topic will continue a series on Ghost Towns or Vanished Communities in Walker County. Connie Forester, local historian, will talk on the history of the Lytle Community north of Chickamauga. It was a vibrant area when the Army Post was active at Ft. Oglethorpe.
