The Lady Trojans finally broke through in the fourth inning at Darlington last Monday, scoring six times en route to the victory.

Gracey Kruse had an RBI-hit in the inning, while starting pitcher Canaan Burnett helped herself with a two-run double. The Lady Tigers hurt themselves by committing three errors in the frame.

Paxton Grimes launched a tworun homer in the top of the sixth and the game would end a half-inning later via the run-rule.

Kruse and Katherine Grace McElhaney both went 2 for 3 in the win. Burnett threw six innings to get the win in the circle. She allowed just three hits and finished with three strikeouts.

The Navy-and-White continued its mastery over Region 6 this past Thursday with an shutout of the No. 8-ranked Lady Bulldogs in Chickamauga.

Grimes belted a two-run homer in the third inning, while Kruse stayed hot. The junior went 3 for 3 with a triple and drove in two more runs. McElhaney also had an RBI in the win.

Burnett threw all five innings to get the victory in the circle. She allowed just two hits and finished with five strikeouts.

Gordon Lee (21-1), winners of 21 consecutive games, is now 8-0 in region play after their fourth straight shutout and their third straight 8-0 shutout of the week. They have 13 total shutouts this season and have given up just two runs in region play so far this year.

“We haven’t really been paying much attention to (the streak),” head coach Dana Mull. “We’ve just been taking it one game at a time. That’s been our focus, especially here lately with all the games we’ve been playing these last two or three weeks. I think we’ve kept our focus where it should be and done a good job of not looking ahead.”

The Lady Trojans were scheduled to travel to Berry College in Rome on Monday to face region rival Bowdon in a doubleheader. Due to newspaper deadlines, results were not available as of press time.

Gordon Lee is slated to close out the regular season at home Thursday against Mt. Zion-Carroll at 5 p.m.
