Wooten no-hits Chattooga as Ridgeland stays unbeaten

- By Scott Herpst

Junior Dylan Wooten threw the sixth individual no-hitter in Ridgeland Panther history on Friday night and Ivy Boehm would get his second victory of the young season in the nightcap as the Black-and-White swept a twinbill at Chattooga to move to 3-0 on the season.

The doubleheader was originally scheduled to be played at Jay Smith Field in Rossville, but had to be moved after an electrical problem with the lights at Ridgeland was discovered. Repairs were expected to be completed on Monday.

Wooten struck out 10 Indians and gave up four walks in the five-inning no-no. He also helped himself with a three-run base hit as part of a sixrun fourth inning that blew the game wide open.

Shawn Wilson was 2-for-3 with a two-RBI single in the second inning and a run-scoring double in the fourth. Riley Harrison had an RBI- triple as one of his two hits. Tanner Hill had two hits, including a double, and Boehm also went 2-for-3.

A nine-run first inning was provided more than enough run support as Boehm, Eli Foshay and Ellis Johnson combined for the sixinning win. Boehm worked three innings to record the victory. Foshay worked a third of an inning before Johnson would finish it up.

Ridgeland would add solo runs in the third and fourth innings before two final runs in the sixth.

Boehm also went 2-for-4 with three RBIs, while Christian Gentry plated two with a single. Hill, Harrison, Will Hodges and Austin Delay (2-4) all had two hits in the win as the Panthers racked up 13 hits in Game 2 to go with 10 in Game 1.

The Panthers are scheduled to host Gordon Central Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. in the home opener. They are scheduled to play at Dade County on Thursday (5:30) before a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Ringgold on Saturday.
