Lady Trojans ousted at Wilkinson County

The state playoff run of the Gordon Lee Lady Trojans came to an abrupt end on Friday night as they were edged out, 48-44, at Wilkinson County in the opening round of the Class A Public School tournament.

After a tight first half, Wilkinson opened the second half on a run to take a 12-point lead, but Gordon Lee would respond.

The Lady Trojans would fight back to narrow the gap and eventually tie the game at 38. Wilkinson County was up one with less than a minute to go before scoring to make it 47-44 in the closing seconds.

Gordon Lee got a look at a gametying 3-pointer with seven seconds to play, but the shot rimmed out and the Lady Trojans were forced to foul. Wilkinson then made 1-of-2 at the charity stripe to seal the victory and advance to play Marion County in Round 2.

Molly Thomison and Abby Dalton had 11 points each in the loss as Gordon Lee finished with a 15-12 overall record. Faith Alexander had seven points, followed by Lexie Clark with six, Gracey Kruse with five and Katelyn O’Toole and Katelyn Bickett with two apiece.
