Tyrese Hunter named to Tip-Off Club Senior Game roster

LaFayette senior Tyrese Hunter has been selected to play in the Northwest Georgia TipOff Club’s 2017 Senior All-Star Game.

Hunter will join a roster that includes Chattooga’s Jay Shropshire, Isaiah Foster and Isaac Foster, Elijah McKoy and J.T. Mumber of Darlington, Coosa’s Duke Blackburn and M.J. Chubb, Armuchee’s Drew Cummings and Seth Stanley, Model’s John Weaver and Rome’s Nemo Reddish.

The team will be coached by Jared Groce of Chattooga.

The game will take place at Georgia Highlands College in Rome on Thursday, March 16, at 7:30 p.m. Admission will be $5 per person.

Tip-Off Club announces award winners

The Northwest Georgia Tip-Off Club held its 31st Team of the Year Banquet at the Krannert Center at Berry College in Rome this past Thursday night.

The Model High School girls, who advanced to the Class AA Final Four, were the Girls’ High School Team of the Year, while Sally Echols of Model was named as the Coach of the Year.

Chattooga, who made it to the Class AA Elite Eight, was the Boys’ High Team of the Year, while Coach Jared Groce earned Coach of the Year honors.

The High School MVP’s of the Year were Victaria Saxton of Model and Anna Claire Atha on the girls’ side, and Jay Shropshire of Chattooga and Chapin Rierson of Calhoun on the boys’ side.

Model Middle School’s girls were named the Middle School Team of the Year, while Kayla Evans of Model Middle took Coach of the Year honors.

Sophomores Katy Phillips and Daniel Parrish were named as the Female and Male Players of the Year for Georgia Northweste­rn.

LaFayette, the only Walker County school to participat­e in the Tip-Off Club, saw Madison Harris and Dee Southern named as its Girls’ and Boys’ Players of the Month for December. Jada Allmon and Tyrese Hunter won the school’s awards for January, while Megan Wilson and Alex Kelehear were LaFayette’s Players of the Year.
