RECREATION · 2017 spring wildflower hikes at Cloudland Canyon State Park from 10 a.m. -noon) Longer days, warmer weather and colorful blooms are sure signs of spring’s arrival. To celebrate the season, Georgia State Park rangers are hosting a series of guided wildflower walks that provide a close look at blooms such as Canada Violet, Trout Lily, Wild Azalea, Spring Beauty, Foamflower, Trillium, Indian Pink and Buckeye. The walk will be repeated at the same time on Saturday, March 18, and Monday, March 20.

MEETING · The Northwest Georgia Regional Commission Council will conduct its regularly scheduled meeting at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 16. This public meeting will take place at the Gordon COunty Agricultur­al Service Center, 1292 state Highway 53 Spur, S.W., in Calhoun.

COMMUNITY · The LaFayette-Walker County Library, 305 Duke St., in LaFayette, offers a crochet and knitting club every first and third Tuesday and Thursday of the month from 5:30-6:30 p.m. This self-directed group offers support, learning and networking opportunit­ies for all who wish to learn or are experience­d.

ENTERTAINM­ENT · “Irish Courage” at the Mars Theatre in Lafayette is a foot stomping great time. Based on the classic “Playboy of the Western World”, Back Alley Production­s transports you to the emerald isle with show stopping traditiona­l Irish music and a compelling story that will have you on your feet. The play continues this week and through March 28 on Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday matinees at 2:30.p.m.

ENTERTAINM­ENT · The world-traveled Harlem Ambassador­s bring their fun-loving comedy basketball show to Ringgold High School at 5 p.m. on Saturday, March 18, when they take on the locally as-sembled Ringgold Locomotive­s team comprised of city officials, city employees, local celebritie­s, and former athletes in a fund raiser for the Ringgold Downtown Developmen­t Authority. Tickets are $10 general admission, free for children ages four and under, and available at Ringgold City Hall between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. ENTERTAINM­ENT · The Friends of the Gordon-Lee Mansion will open the Mansion for tours on March 18, and 25 from noon until 2 p.m. The Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum will operate the Chickamaug­a Turn on these Saturdays and the Mansion will be open for tours. All proceeds go to the Friends of the Gordon-Lee Mansion, a 501c3 organizati­on, for preservati­on efforts. Admission is $5 adults and $1 for 12 and under. COMMUNITY · The 19th annual GraduRun 5K will be held March 18 at First Volunteer Bank, Ringgold Branch. Race starts at 8 a.m. Proceeds will benefit Communitie­s In Schools of Catoosa County, a non-profit 501(c)3 organizati­on. The mission of Communitie­s In Schools is to surround students with a community of support helping them to achieve in school and life. A school drop-out costs our community over $292,000 in unrealized earning potential.

EDUCATION ·The Walker County Historical Society will meet on Sunday, March 19, 2017, as part of the annual Scholarshi­p Reception at the Marsh House, 2-3:00 pm. Donations to the Scholarshi­p Fund will be received, and Clayton Bell Scholarshi­p students will describe their projects for 2016 and 2017 working as volunteers at the Marsh House in historic preservati­on. The public is invited to attend. The Marsh House is located diagoniall­y across the street from Food City in LaFayette.
