Gordon Lee tennis teams net first two wins
The Gordon Lee tennis teams each both 2-3 on the season after winning two of three matches this past week.
The Lady Trojans pick up their first victory of the season last Monday afternoon, 4-1, at Chattooga. Gordon Lee won two singles matches swept the two doubles matches.
Katherine Grace McElhaney beat Katelyn Kiser, 6-1, 6-1, while Bethany Underwood defeated Chasity Evans, 6-3, 7-5. The team of Katelyn Bickett and Canaan Burnett handled Gracie Nixon and Lexi Kerley, 6-1, 6-0, while Hannah Lee and Mary Kate Pritchett shut out Ciera Lewis and Hope McGraw, 6-0, 6-0.
Chattooga’s point came at No. 1 singles as Megan Hardin beat Jill Bradenburg, 6-0, 6-2.
Lani Chastain won 8-3 for Gordon Lee in an exhibition singles match.
In boys’ action, Gordon Lee picked up a 3-2 win over the Indians.
Aaron McCurdy beat Jackson Woodfin, 6-1, 6-3. The team of Tanner Davis and Evan Clayton got past Evan Perry and Hamilton Ratliff, 7-6, 7-5, and Garrison Heiden and Tobin Elliott beat Derringer Leffler and Nick Kerley in three sets, 6-4, 5-7, 7-5, to clinch the match.
For the Indians, Trey DeBerry beat Ryan McCurdy, 6-4, 6-0, and J.J. Roberts defeated Tucker Trivette, 6-1, 6-3.
Gordon Lee kept it going by sweeping Ridgeland at Ridgeland on Wednesday.
Ryan McCurdy won at No. 1 singles against the Panthers, while Clayton won at No. 2 singles. Heiden and Elliott claimed the win at No. 1 doubles and the Panthers were forced to forfeit the other two matches. Individual scores were not provided.
In girls’ action,
turned the tables by beating the Ramblers, 4-1, which dropped the Orange-and-Black to 7-4 on the season.
LaFayette’s win came at No. 1 doubles as Asbeury and Dillon Hughes won 6-4, 6-3.
LaFayette will host LFO on Tuesday in the last scheduled match until the Region 6-AAAA tournament at Lakeshore Park in Dalton on April 11.
