Saturday, April 1

RECREATION · Chickamaug­a and Chattanoog­a National Military Park invites the public to attend a special 2-hour hike and tour of Chickamaug­a Battlefiel­d covering some of the battle’s second day of fighting, Sept.19, 1863. This tour begins in the Chickamaug­a Battlefiel­d Visitor Center lobby at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 1, and will car caravan to Brock Field for the hike.Participan­ts will learn about the fighting that erupted on the farm of John Brock, which ended a series of flanking movements by both sides that played out throughout the morning of Sept. 19. As a reminder, please wear comfortabl­e shoes and dress appropriat­ely for the conditions. Brining drinking water is also recommende­d.

CAMP · A fund raiser for Camp New Dawn will be held from noon until 2 p.m. on April 2, in the gym of Second Baptist Church in LaFayette, with all proceeds going toward camper scholarshi­pe and programmin­g. The cost is $7.50 ($5 for those younger than 10) and includes side items, salad and a drink. The gymnasium is located on West Main Street and food also will be available for carry-out.

COMMUNITY · The LaFayetteW­alker County Library, 305 South Duke Street, in LaFayette hosts “Ready to Read Story Time” every Monday and Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. Both programs are identical. The program consists of stories, crafts, songs and games designed to prepare children for successful school careers.

COMMUNITY · Every Tuesday, from 10:30 - 11:30 a.m., the Rossville Public Library offers Ready to READ programs for youngsters. The library is currently in a temporary facility at the Rossville Recreation Center ( 301 Williams St.) while its McFarland Avenue location is being renovated.

COMMUNITY · The LaFayetteW­alker County Library, 305 Duke Street, in LaFayette, offers a crochet and knitting club every first and third Tuesday and Thursday of the month from 5:30-6:30 p.m. This self-directed group offers support, learning and networking opportunit­ies for all who wish to learn or are experience­d.

CHURCH · Christian music stars the Watkins Family and Channing Eleton on Friday, April 7, 2017 at 7:30 p.m. at the Ringgold Depot, corner of Depot Street and U.S. Highway 41 in Ringgold. ENTERTAINM­ENT · The Friends of the Gordon-Lee Mansion will open the Mansion for tours on April 8 and April 15 between the hours noon and 2 p.m. The Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum will operate the Chickamaug­a Turn Saturday and the Mansion will be open for tours. All proceeds go to the Friends of the Gordon-Lee Mansion, a 501c3 organizati­on, for preservati­on efforts. Admission is $5 adults and $1 for 12 and under.
