UNG awards more than 1,800 degrees
The University of North Georgia, located in Dahlonega, awarded more than 1,800 degrees and certificates for the spring 2017 semester, including hundreds awarded in commencement exercises held May 5-7 at the university. Among those graduates were local students:

Area honor and graduating students from Samford University
Students received a bachelor’s, master’s or doctoral degree from Samford University, located in Birmingham, Ala.
Rebecca Victoria Bailey, of Chickamauga, graduated from Samford University during recent commencement exercises. Bailey earned a Doctor of Pharmacy from McWhorter School of Pharmacy.
Anna Charlotte Boldt, of Flintstone, graduated from Samford University during recent commencement exercises. Boldt earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from Orlean Beeson School of Education.
Jessica Elizabeth Long, of Chickamauga, graduated from Samford University during recent commencement exercises. Long earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursingcum laude from Ida Moffett School of Nursing.
Jessica Wolinsky, of Chickamauga, Georgia, was named to the spring 2017 dean’s list at Samford University’s Cumberland School of Law. Dean’s List is the highest academic recognition given by the school at the end of each semester.
Long on James Madison University president’s list
Lookout Mountain resident, Sarah Ashley Long, was named to the president’s list at James Madison University for the spring 2017 semester. Students who earn president’s list honors must carry at least 12 graded credit hours and earn a GPA of 3.900 or above. Long is scheduled to graduate in 2017 and is majoring in musical theatre.
Casey makes the Dean’s List at Coastal Carolina University
Mary Casey, of Chickamauga, majoring in intelligence and national security studies, was among 1,920 students at Coastal Carolina University who made the school’s Spring 2017 Dean’s List.
To qualify for the Dean’s List, freshmen must earn a 3.25 grade point average, and upperclassmen must earn a 3.5 grade point average. To qualify for the President’s List, students must earn a 4.0 grade point average. All students must be enrolled full time.
Coastal Carolina University is a liberal arts institution located in Conway, S.C., near the resort area of Myrtle Beach. that offers 73 areas of study toward the baccalaureate degree, 18 master’s degree programs, two educational specialist degrees and a Ph.D. in coastal and marine systems science.
Moses graduates from Wofford College
James Thatcher Moses received his undergrate degree from Wofford College during commencement exercises on May 21, 2017. Moses, a Lookout Mountain resident, received a bachelor of arts degree in English.
Chattanooga State announces Walker County students on Dean’s List
Chattanooga State Community College is proud to announce that the following students from Walker County have attained Dean’s List status for the 2017 spring semester. Eligibility requirements to make the Dean’s List includes students who have completed 12 or more hours of college-level work with a grade point average (GPA) of 3.5 or higher for that semester.

Price named to GSU’s President’s List
Mason Pike of Trion, has been named to the Spring 2017 President’s List at Georgia State University. To be eligible for the President’s List, students must earn a 4.0 grade point average for the semester and complete at least nine semester hours of academic credit with no incompletes.
Logan graduates from Wittenberg University
William Logan, from LaFayette, was among the 430-member Class of 2017 graduating from Wittenberg University.
The class included students from Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington and Wisconsin, and several international students from Barbados, Canada, China, Columbia, Ethiopia, Jamaica, Japan, Mozambique, Pakistan, Thailand, United Kingdom and Vietnam.
Two area students among 5,000 on GSU Dean’s List
Indigo Whatley, of Summerville, and Perk Shah, of LaFayette, were included along with
more than 5,000 students named to the Spring 2017 Dean’s List at Georgia State University in Atlanta. To be eligible for the Dean’s List, students earned a 3.50 grade point average for the semester.
Mercer University’s spring 2017 Dean’s List includes two local students
Mercer University recently announced the President’s List and Dean’s List for the spring 2017 semester. Inclusion on these lists requires students to meet rigorous grade-point-average standards specific to the college or school within the University.
Among those earned Dean’s List honors were Creed Dunn, a junior from Chickamauga, and Samantha Plogger, a senior from LaFayette.
Valdosta State University announces Spring 2017 Dean’s List
Of more than 1,600 students making the Spring 2017 Dean’s List at Valdosta State University, five are from Walker or Chattooga counties.
They are: Brody Lathem, of Menlo; Amelia Lively, of Trion; Jessica Millican, of Summerville; Kelly Vann, of La Fayette and Isaac Wright, of Menlo.
Students who achieve a semester grade point average of 3.50 or higher on nine or more semester hours with an institutional grade point average of 3.00 or higher are recognized by being placed on the Dean’s List.
Harris of Rossville on Dean’s List at Roane State Community College
Erin Harris, of Rossville, made the Dean’s List at Roane State Community College for the spring 2017 semester.
Located in Harriman, Tenn., Roane State is a two-year college providing transfer programs, career-preparation programs and continuing education. Founded in 1971, the college has campuses in Crossville, Harriman, Huntsville, Jamestown, Knoxville, LaFollette, Lenoir City, Oak Ridge and Wartburg.
