John Andrew “Andy” Watson Sr., 99, LaFayette
John Andrew “Andy” Watson Sr., of LaFayette, Ga., passed away Tuesday, June 6, 2017. He was 99.
He was longtime member of the LaFayette Presbyterian Church serving as an elder and deacon and loved the Lord immensely.
During World War II he served his country in the Pacific Theater for the U.S. Navy as an electrician.
He was a farmer at heart who always had a love for horses and cows and upon retiring from the carpet industry in 1983 began his passion for working the family farm.
Andy had a cheerful and optimistic disposition and whenever in his presence, he left you feeling better about yourself than you did before. Blessed with a loving family and good health, he never took life for granted and up until the last three weeks of his life he lived by himself, did his own cooking, and prided himself on being a safe driver.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 71 years, Mildred Stanfield Watson; his parents, Robert “Bob” Watson and Mary Taylor Watson; sister, Drucilla Watson Hyde and brother, Roy Watson.
Survivors include: his son, John Andrew Watson Jr. and wife Joyce of LaFayette; daughter, Judy Watson Baker and husband, Russell “Buddy” Baker of Charlotte, N.C.; grandchildren, Jana Watson Dufresne and husband Andy, Andria Watson Parker and husband Brian, Andy Watson III and wife, Sarah, Russ Baker Jr. and wife Nicole, Joanna Baker Andrews and husband Joe III; great-grandchildren, Watson, Liam and Caleb Dufresne, Ansley, Luke, Landry and Valor Parker, Harper Grace, Elizabeth and Collier Watson, Tyler and Conner Andrews.
Visitation: Family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 6-8 p.m.
Funeral service: 2 p.m. Saturday, June 10, in the Wilbanks Memorial Chapel with Dr. Warren Moorhead officiating.
Burial: in LaFayette City Cemetery.
