LaFayette Rangers capture Dizzy Dean District 1 crown

The LaFayette AllStars went undefeated in the 8-year-old Dizzy Dean District 1 baseball tournament, which concluded on last Monday night in Summervill­e.

LaFayette opened with back-to-back victories over Summervill­e and LFO this past Friday before they took down Ringgold on Saturday to advance to the championsh­ip game.

There, they met Summervill­e once more after the host team navigated their way through the eliminatio­n bracket. However, they couldn’t get past LaFayette, who claimed the win and the title.

With the win, LaFayette earned a spot in the Dizzy Dean North Georgia State Sanctioned Tournament, which gets underway this Friday (June 29) in Gordon County.

Two other District 1 tournament­s also wrapped up play last Monday.

In the 6-yearold tournament at Boynton, the host team battled their way to a championsh­ip. After losing to the Chickamaug­a Storm in the winners’ bracket final over the weekend, Boynton defeated Rock Spring in the eliminatio­n bracket final before beating the Storm twice to claim the title.

Boynton, Chickamaug­a and Rock Spring all earned spots in the Dizzy Dean North Georgia State Sanctioned Tournament, which begins Saturday (June 30) back at Boynton.
