LaFayette Rangers capture Dizzy Dean District 1 crown
The LaFayette AllStars went undefeated in the 8-year-old Dizzy Dean District 1 baseball tournament, which concluded on last Monday night in Summerville.
LaFayette opened with back-to-back victories over Summerville and LFO this past Friday before they took down Ringgold on Saturday to advance to the championship game.
There, they met Summerville once more after the host team navigated their way through the elimination bracket. However, they couldn’t get past LaFayette, who claimed the win and the title.
With the win, LaFayette earned a spot in the Dizzy Dean North Georgia State Sanctioned Tournament, which gets underway this Friday (June 29) in Gordon County.
Two other District 1 tournaments also wrapped up play last Monday.
In the 6-yearold tournament at Boynton, the host team battled their way to a championship. After losing to the Chickamauga Storm in the winners’ bracket final over the weekend, Boynton defeated Rock Spring in the elimination bracket final before beating the Storm twice to claim the title.
Boynton, Chickamauga and Rock Spring all earned spots in the Dizzy Dean North Georgia State Sanctioned Tournament, which begins Saturday (June 30) back at Boynton.
