Commissioner’s meeting is this Thursday evening
Walker County Commissioner Shannon Whitfield will hold his next public meeting on Thursday, July 27, in the commissioner’s conference room at 101 S. Duke St. (at the intersection with Villanow Street) in LaFayette. The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m.
Qualifying period is Aug. 2123 for LaFayette elections
The city of LaFayette will elect two council members, a mayor and municipal court judge this year. Candidates may file qualifing papers between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. each day during Aug. 21-23..
Seats up for election include those held by Mayor Andy Arnold, Councilman Ben Bradford, Councilman Beacher Garmany and City Judge Kenneth S. Maples.
New name for rec building
Councilman Wayne Swanson, during the council’s July 17 meeting, made a motion to change the name of the LaFayette Recreation Center building to honor the late Harry and Sue Harrington, who helped bring the recreation center to the city. A dedication ceremony date will be announced.
