NGYFL setting up scholarship fund to assist with football costs
The North Georgia Youth Football League (NGYFL) is asking for your assistance in helping children play football this fall.
Adam Wilson, the Catoosa County Parks and Recreation Athletics Coordinator, has started a scholarship fund through the website gofundme.com. Wilson said the goal is to raise $10,000 before football sign-ups end on Aug. 12.
“Many kids in the North Georgia area want to play football, but the cost to participate is sometimes more than their parents can afford,” Wilson wrote on the gofundme site. “The North Georgia Youth Football League would like to scholarship those kids who are less fortunate and unable to afford the expenses associated with the league.”
According to the site, the donations toward the fund would go toward covering players’ registration fees, which can typically run between $75-$100, and players’ equipment (such as helmets, pads, cleats, mouth pieces, pants, practice jerseys) that can cost anywhere between $200-$300 more.
The NGYFL will manage all donations received. Recreation departments and parent-run associations that participate in the NGYFL may privately and discreetly nominate players from their organization to receive full or partial scholarships.
No money will be distributed to any one person or family. Rather, the money will be distributed to the respective recreation departments or parentrun associations. The total amount of scholarships awarded will depend on the total amount of donations received.
Wilson says $10,000 would be enough to scholarship 100 kids who would normally not be able to play. He adds that any monetary donations, from $1 to $1,000, will be greatly appreciated.
