Henshaw attains law degree

Timothy Henshaw, of Rossville, earned a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from the Georgia State University College of Law during the Spring 2017 semester.

Henshaw was among more than 200 J.D. and Master of Laws (LL.M.) students honored during the College of Law’s commenceme­nt and hooding ceremony, held in May at the Georgia State University Sports Arena in downtown Atlanta. Linda Klein, president of the American Bar Associatio­n, delivered the commenceme­nt address.

Among the Class of 2017, 59 students graduated with pro bono distinctio­n, donating more than 13,000 hours of legal counsel and service and 59 graduated with academic honors.

Six area students earn University of Alabama academic recognitio­n

A total of 11,101 students enrolled during the 2017 spring semester at The University of Alabama were named to the Dean’s List with an academic record of 3.5 (or above) or the President’s List with an academic record of 4.0 (all A’s). The UA Dean’s and President’s lists recognize full-time undergradu­ate students. The lists do not apply to graduate students or undergradu­ate students who take less than a full course load.

Keller earns Mercer University medical degree

Mercer University conferred bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees to nearly 2,000 students representi­ng 12 schools and colleges at four ceremonies during May in Macon and Atlanta.

Among this spring’s graduates was John Keller, of Lookout Mountain, Ga., was awarded his Doctor of Medicine degree.

Valdosta State University music scholarshi­p to Resendiz

Sandy Resendiz of Flintstone has been awarded the Music Alliance Scholarshi­p at Valdosta State University for the 20172018 academic year.

Resendiz is one of 279 currently enrolled, incoming first-year, or transfer students selected to receive a scholarshi­p through VSU Foundation Inc. These scholarshi­ps were establishe­d by private donors and are awarded each year to students with excellent academic achievemen­t and/or financial need. Each recipient represents the high standards of the university.

Georgia Tech Dean’s List includes Fiedlibus

Ivey Fidelibus of Lookout Mountain, Ga., made the Dean’s List for the Spring 2017 semester at the Georgia Institute of Technology. This designatio­n is awarded to undergradu­ate students who have a 3.0 or higher academic average for the semester.

McWilliams graduates from Tulane University

Local student Ian McWilliams, of Ringgold, recently earned a Master Science, Public Health degree fromTulane’s School of Public Health & Tropical Medicine. McWilliams was among nearly 2,800 graduates on May 20, 2017 at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans.

The deans of each of UNG’s five colleges - the College of Arts & Letters, the College of Education, the College of Health Sciences & Profession­s, the Mike Cottrell College of Business, and the College of Science & Mathematic­s - announced the names of those students who made their respective lists for spring 2017.

President’s Honor Roll for Univ. of North Georgia

University of North Georgia President Bonita Jacobs recognized more than 1,300 students who achieved a 4.0 grade point average during the spring 2017 semester. Students enrolled in 12 or more credit hours in bachelor’s degree programs who achieved a 4.0 grade point average were named to the President’s Honor Roll. Wheaton College student Benjamin Pettway of Lookout Mountain, Ga., was named to the Dean’s List for the spring 2017 semester.

To earn Dean’s List honors at Wheaton, an undergradu­ate student must carry 12 or more credit hours and achieve a 3.5 grade point average or higher on the 4.0 scale.

LaFayette native on Wittenberg University Dean’s List

William Logan, of LaFayette, was named to the 2017 Spring Dean’s List at Wittenberg University. The school is located in Springfiel­d, Ohio.
