COMMUNITY · Rossville Community Ministries, a ministry of Rossville area churches, is a food pantry stocked with non-perishable food to help families or individual­s in the Rossville area. Non-perishable food items, cash donations and volunteers are needed. The Rossville Community Ministries is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from noon until 3 p.m. They are at First Baptist Church of Rossville, 100 Spring Street. Those coming for the first time should call 706-861-5748 during office hours to find out what is necessary to avail themselves of this service.

MEETING · The Cherokee Regional Library board of trustees will meet Thursday, July 27, at 4 p.m. at the LaFayette-Walker County Public Library.

MEETING · The July meeting of Walker County Democrats will be held on Thursday, July 27, 6:30 p.m., at the Chickamaug­a Public Library, 306 Cove Road. The topic will be a panel discussion by current and past public school teachers on “Why Good Public Schools are Essential to Democracy.” The panel will include Austin Cope, a science teacher at Chattanoog­a Valley Elementary; Jason Alspaugh, a history teacher at Ridgeland High School; David Cofield, a retired teacher from La Fayette; and Jim Barrett, President of the Walker County Associatio­n of Educators, who has just returned from the National Education Associatio­n’s Representa­tive Assembly in Boston. Issues of local control and adequate financing will be discussed. All parents and grandparen­ts are encouraged to attend, as well as everyone interested in strengthen­ing our democracy. ENTERTAINM­ENT · The Friends of the Gordon-Lee Mansion, in Chickamaug­a, will conduct tours of the mansion every Saturday until Labor Day. The Mansion will be open from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. with an admission of $5 for adults and $1 for children 12 and younger.
