RECREATION · Cloudland Canyon State Park offers instructio­n in compass reading and knot tying skills from 2-3 p.m. on Saturdays. The orienteeri­ng programs on Aug. 19 and Sept. 2 introduces map and compass reading — never get lost in the woods again. Friday niight hikes at Cloudland Canyon State Park are 2-mile walks on one of the park’s best trails. Participan­ts will learn interestin­g facts about the geology and history of the canyon. By the end of the hike, hikers will be in the dark, enjoying the trail by moonlight and listening for night sounds. Ages 10 and older. Reservatio­ns Required. Snacks and water will be available for you take with you on the hike and headlamps will be provided. Please bring a small pack to carry your items.
