Heritage slips past Dalton

- By Scott Herpst

The Heritage Generals led 7-3 after two innings, but had to hang on to pull out a 10-9 win over Dalton this past Thursday night in Boynton.

The Lady Catamounts scored four in the top of the fourth to tie the game, but Heritage would push home a solo run in the bottom half of the inning.

Dalton retook the lead with two runs in the fifth, only to see Heritage answer with two runs a half-inning later to regain the lead for good.

Rachel Gibson got the win in the circle in relief of starter Ashley Faulkenberry. Gibson threw three scoreless innings, walked three and gave up two hits. She also fanned three Dalton batters.

Offensively, Bailey Christol went 2-for-3 with a stolen base and two runs scored. Madi Morris also went 2-for3 with a double and a triple.

She drove in two and scored three times, while Sarah Dye was 2-for-4. Katie Proctor was 1-for-3 with a double, but knocked in four runs for the Generals.

Results of Monday’s game with Ringgold at Lee University were not available as of press time. The Generals (5-4) will get back to region action at Pickens on Tuesday (5:55 p.m.) before hosting LaFayette on Thursday (5:55 p.m.)

Heritage’s scheduled game last Tuesday at Gilmer was postponed to due the death of a Gilmer softball parent. A makeup date has yet to be announced.
