The Ringgold Lady Tigers picked up a 5-0 win over county rival Lakeview last Monday night.

Maddy Bacon struck out six batters and gave up just one hit. The Lady Tigers collected eight hits, including three by Autumn Green and two by Addy Broome.

In the JV game, Maddy Lee was 3-for-3 and knocked in six runs in a 13-4 win over the Lady Warriors. Riley Burdette and Zoey DeFoor each had two hits, while Burdette drove in two runs.

Individual statistics for Lakeview were not provided as of press time.

Ringgold 8, Calhoun 7

The Lady Tigers were outhit, 10-5, but five Calhoun errors aided the cause of the Blue-and-White as they picked up a road victory last Tuesday in a non-league game.

A three-run fourth inning would give Ringgold the lead for good.

Taylor Layne was 2-for-2, scored once and drove in a run for the Lady Tigers. Ava Raby had two RBIs, while Baileigh Pitts was credited with one. Addy Broome and Autumn Green scored two runs each.

Ringgold along with 17 other teams took to the field over the weekend and the Lady Tigers would battle Westside of Whitfield County in the finals, losing 5-4 after three extra innings.

Ringgold got solid pitching all weekend from Bacon and Layne, while other standouts included Burdette, Broome, Green, DeFoor, Raby, Pitts, Lee and Riley Heard.

“Both the infield and outfield turned magnificent double plays,” head coach Summer Brown Garrison said. “I am extremely happy with the way these girls played. Second place is nothing to hang our heads about.”

Garrison also announced that the tournament, which had been called the Back To School Tournament since its inception five years ago, has officially and permanently changed its name to the Jesse Raines Duel on the Diamond Memorial Tournament.

Raines, a former standout softball player at Calhoun Middle School, unexpectedly and tragically passed away in August 2012. A memorial to Raines and her memory was set up by the tournament gates all weekend long.

Details of Monday’s game with Chattanooga Valley were not available as of press time. The Lady Tigers are scheduled to play at home on Thursday against Gordon Lee at 5 p.m.
