Young Lady Bobcats encouraged by play in Rumble tournament

The Georgia Northwestern Lady Bobcats, with just one returning player on the roster, opened the new season during the Rumble in Rossville Tournament over the weekend at the Rossville Athletic Center.

Things didn’t go as well as hoped for the Lady Bobcats as they dropped four matches.

On Friday, Georgia Northwestern lost to Hiwassee College, 2514 and 25-15, before a 25-20, 25-19 set back to Welch College.

Then on Saturday, the Lady Bobcats lost to Crown College, 25-22 and 25-21. The weekend ended with a 25-15, 25-22 loss to Cleveland State Community College.

Despite the losses, new head coach Amber Weaver said her team was encouraged by their performance.

“We wish we could have won one of those, but I’m proud of the way we played together and hung with everyone we played,” she said. “We had one player (Ashlee Adamson) get hurt, but we adjusted just fine and we were still competitive the rest of the weekend.”

Georgia Northwestern (0-4) will head to Knoxville, Tenn. on Tuesday to take on Johnson University.

“I couldn’t have asked for better attitudes from my players and we are all excited to get to play these teams again later in the season,” Weaver added. “We’re going up (to Knoxville) on Tuesday knowing a little more of what to expect now.

“Overall, I thought the tournament itself went great. We had good crowds and ended up making a profit, so I thought it went really well.”

GNTC will travel to Marion, Ala. on Sept. 9 for a tri-match with Welch at Jusdon College.

On Sept. 11, the Lady Bobcats will play the first of four straight home matches in Rossville against the Covenant College JV Lady Scots at 6 p.m.
