COMMUNITY · The City of Chickamauga and the Chickamauga Community Growth Association will be hosting First Fridays “Block Party” featuring Common Ground. Common Ground is a north Georgia based cover band that performs songs from the 1950s to current hit music. Gordon Street will be closed at 5:30 p.m. and the show will begin at 6 p.m. with merchants remaining open for the crowds and giveaways. Please bring a chair and be prepared to have a great time.

RECREATION · Cloudland Canyon State Park offers instruction in compass reading and knot tying skills from 2-3 p.m. on Saturdays. The orienteering programs on Sept. introduces map and compass reading — never get lost in the woods again. Tie the Knot programs teach how to tie the basic knows used by campers and will be held Aug. 26. For information, call 706-657-4050. A $5 parking fee is collected at all state parks.
ENTERTAINMENT · Kane Brown will headline the first US101 CountryFest at the Northwest Georgia Amphitheatre in Ringgold on Sept. 2. Raised in the Tennessee Valley, Brown gained his notoriety as a country music singer and songwriter when he exploded onto the social media scene a few years ago. Long championed by his hometown station US101 as one of country music’s hottest rising stars, Brown played Riverbend Festival 2016 and has a newly released debut album. Tickets are available online at us101country. com for $20 each. A limited number of VIP meet-and-greet packages are available at an additional charge. The general admission concert starts at 7 p.m. with a special guest opening.
