COMMUNITY · The City of Chickamaug­a and the Chickamaug­a Community Growth Associatio­n will be hosting First Fridays “Block Party” featuring Common Ground. Common Ground is a north Georgia based cover band that performs songs from the 1950s to current hit music. Gordon Street will be closed at 5:30 p.m. and the show will begin at 6 p.m. with merchants remaining open for the crowds and giveaways. Please bring a chair and be prepared to have a great time.

RECREATION · Cloudland Canyon State Park offers instructio­n in compass reading and knot tying skills from 2-3 p.m. on Saturdays. The orienteeri­ng programs on Sept. introduces map and compass reading — never get lost in the woods again. Tie the Knot programs teach how to tie the basic knows used by campers and will be held Aug. 26. For informatio­n, call 706-657-4050. A $5 parking fee is collected at all state parks.

ENTERTAINM­ENT · Kane Brown will headline the first US101 CountryFes­t at the Northwest Georgia Amphitheat­re in Ringgold on Sept. 2. Raised in the Tennessee Valley, Brown gained his notoriety as a country music singer and songwriter when he exploded onto the social media scene a few years ago. Long championed by his hometown station US101 as one of country music’s hottest rising stars, Brown played Riverbend Festival 2016 and has a newly released debut album. Tickets are available online at us101count­ry. com for $20 each. A limited number of VIP meet-and-greet packages are available at an additional charge. The general admission concert starts at 7 p.m. with a special guest opening.
