Lo­cal high school golfers named to 2017 All-State teams

The Ge­or­gia High School Golf Coaches As­so­ci­a­tion re­cently re­leased its All-State teams for the 2017 sea­son and sev­eral area golfers made the cut.

Gor­don Lee swept the Player of the Year Awards for Class A Pub­lic. Ma­call Miller was the Girls’ Player of the Year af­ter win­ning the in­di­vid­ual state ti­tle, while her team­mates Jes­sica Hick­man and Han­nah Willer­son were both named to the first team.

Willer­son has since moved to Rome and now at­tends Dar­ling­ton.

Hick­man placed fourth in­di­vid­u­ally at state, while Willer­son tied for fifth. Gor­don Lee tied for the team ti­tle with Por­tal.

On the boys’ side, Tucker Wind­ham was named as the Boys’ Player of the Year. Wind­ham, along with fel­low first team­ers Justin Hick­man and Gray Wel­don all tied for in­di­vid­ual cham­pi­onship hon­ors at the state tour­na­ment and to­gether they helped the Tro­jans shoot a Gor­don Lee sin­gle-round record of 303 as they won state by 42 strokes.

In Class AAA, Ring­gold Gavin No­ble and Mi­randa Rich were both named to the first team. No­ble, who qual­i­fied for state as an in­di­vid­ual, tied for fourth over­all.

And in Class AAAA, Gage Smith was a first team pick from LaFayette, while team­mate Cole In­gram was named hon­or­able men­tion.

In­gram was also the area in­di­vid­ual cham­pion, while Smith was the run­ner-up. At state, Smith placed eighth and In­gram tied for ninth in the 18-hole, rain short­ened event.
