Gordon Lee to open playoffs on the road
The Gordon Lee Lady Trojans played their final regular season matches last Tuesday, beating Coahulla Creek, 25-6 and 25-17, before a 2517, 25-22 victory over Ridgeland in a tri-match in Varnell.
Aubree Yancey had a dozen kills and seven blocks in the win. Gracie O’Neal finished with 10 kills and digs, while Mallory Collier ended the night with 24 assists.
On Thursday, the Lady Trojans were in Atlanta for the Area 4-A tournament at Mt. Paran Christian. Thirdseeded Gordon Lee split their first two matches, coasting past Morris Innovative, 25-2 and 25-2, before losing to second-seeded North Cobb Christian, 25-19 and 25-11.
The loss dropped Gordon Lee to the elimination bracket were they clinched a spot in the Class A state tournament with 25-20, 25-18 win over Christian Heritage.
Summer Fitzpatrick had 11 aces and seven kills on the night. Gracie O’Neal had 13 kills and 15 digs, while Madison Mayberry had 16 digs.
The Lady Trojans wrapped up play in
the tournament on Saturday, defeating Darlington, 25-20 and 25-23, but falling once again to North Cobb Christian, 25-19 and 25-18.
Top-seeded and topranked Mt. Paran went
on to win the area title.
Yancey had eight kills and five blocks for Gordon Lee. O’Neal finished with 14 digs and six kills, while Madison Mayberry picked up 22 digs.
Gordon Lee (32-10) will open the state playoffs at Landmark Christian in Fairburn on Thursday.
