Lady Ea­gles fin­ish fourth in SCAA tour­ney

The Oak­wood Chris­tian Lady Ea­gles wrapped up the 2017 high school volleyball sea­son last week with a vic­tory on Se­nior Night be­fore a fourth-place fin­ish in the South­ern Chris­tian Ath­letic As­so­ci­a­tion tour­na­ment in Col­legedale.

Last Tues­day, the Lady Ea­gles hon­ored lone se­nior An­nika Green and the Navyand-Gold picked up a 25-20, 25-22, 25-20 win over Ten­nessee Chris­tian Prep School. Green led the way with six kills and seven blocks, while Lexie Asher had six kills, two digs and served up eight straight points in the se­cond set.

Lily Green added three kills, while Mary Ownby had two digs, a kill and five straight ser­vice points in the open­ing set. Other con­trib­u­tors in­cluded Raleigh Suits with three digs and Layla Rogers, El­liana Ham­mond and Amelia Michael, who each added two.

On Thurs­day, OCA opened play in the SCAA tour­na­ment with a 25-14, 25-15 vic­tory over Moun­tain View Chris­tian as An­nika Green had eight kills and a dig. Asher had four kills and six straight ser­vice points in first set, while Lily Green had two kills and seven con­sec­u­tive ser­vice points in se­cond set. Michael chipped in with one kill.

How­ever, the Lady Ea­gles’ bid for an­other SCAA fi­nals ap­pear­ance fell short with a 25-14, 25-10 loss to the host school, CAYA.

An­nika Green, who was later voted to the SCAA All-Tour­na­ment Team, had two digs and a block, while Michael and Rogers added two digs apiece.

The Lady Ea­gles ended the sea­son with an 11-6 over­all record.
