GLHS’ Dylan Minghini, Georgia Scholar
Dylan Minghini graduated from Gordon Lee Memorial High School this year and is one of 208 students statewide to have earned recognition by the state superintendent of schools, Richard Woods, as a Georgia Scholar for his outstanding performance in school and within his community. Here’s our interview with Dylan.
The Georgia Scholar Program says it recognizes high school seniors who have exhibited excellence in all phases of school life, in community activities and in the home.
Please share with us the things you have accomplished in each of these areas to win recognition as a Georgia Scholar.
School/Academic: Valedictorian; Star Student; 33 ACT
School/Extracurricular: National Honor Society President, Lettered 4 Years in Baseball and recently won a state championship, 2017 Walker County Baseball Player of the Year, 2017 Times Free Press Best of Preps
Community: Volunteer at McKamey Animal Center, Ronald McDonald House, and Chattanooga Down Syndrome Buddy Walk
Home: Attend Christ United Methodist Church
What are your plans for your future? Attend Lafayette College (PA), major in mechanical engineering, and play Division 1 Baseball
One or two things you’ve done that you’re especially proud of: I think I’ve done a great job of creating a balance between academics, extracurricular activities, and volunteer work.
Someone or something that has influenced you deeply: My parents have influenced me tremendously by pushing me to always give my best in all aspects of life and to be the best person I can be.
Advice to your future self: Do not get content with what you have. Work to put yourself and your family in the best situation possible.
Do you have a bucket list? If so, how many items are on it and what are some of them? If not, share a couple of things you’d really like to do in your lifetime.
Yes, the one thing on my bucket list is to attend a Major League Baseball game at all MLB stadiums at some point in my lifetime. I am already more than halfway done.
