Gordon Lee heads to postseason with momentum

- By Scott Herpst

The Gordon Lee Trojans and Lady Trojans will both head into this week’s Region 6-A tournament with a good deal of momentum.

Both teams earned subregion wins at Mount Zion last Monday before battling Christian Heritage on the road on Friday. Then on Saturday, they closed out the regular season with dominant home wins over Hixson.

Then in the extra session, O’Neal hit a big 3-pointer with 30 seconds remaining to tie the game at 47 and Star Alexander would sink what became the game-winner at the free throw line. Alexander then grabbed a big rebound with 1.6 seconds to play to seal the confidencebuilding victory.

Sturdivant led Gordon Lee (6-6 in 6-A North) with 14 points. O’Neal added 11 points and Langston finished with 10. McGraw had eight points, followed by Skye Alexander with four and Star Alexander with an all-important one.

The Trojans led 26-10 after a relatively low-scoring first half, but the Navyand-White would find their range in the second half to pull away for a blowout victory.

It was a balanced scoring effort for Gordon Lee as Beagles paced the team with 15 points. Wooden had 14 points, followed by Norton with 13 and Timothy Whitsett with 11. Heming and Gavin McAllister had six points each, while Anthony Peco, Hunter Hodson and Cayden Powell finished with two points apiece.
