Prep Soccer: LFO, Ridgeland split rivalry matches

The LFO Lady Warriors picked up their first victory of the 2019 season with a 4-0 shutout at Ridgeland last Tuesday in a nonregion match.

Sydney Moss netted a hat trick of assists and scored one goal of her own, while Emma Leverrett found the back of the onion bag twice for LFO (1-2). Rebecca Leggett came up with 10 saves in goal, while Bailey Sullivan and Jordan Carver were defensive standouts.

Ridgeland fell to 0-2-1 with the loss.

Ridgeland boys 1, LFO 0

In a tough, back-andforth match, a tally by Juan Valazquez in the 55th minute proved the difference in an evenly-matched contest. Both teams took 15 shots on goal, while Stephon Walker came up with 10 saves to record the clean sheet in goal.

Ridgeland moved to 2-1 overall, while LFO fell to 0-2.

Ridgeland also announced last Tuesday that their matches at Trion, scheduled for Feb. 19, will now be played on Feb. 28.

Heritage girls 5, Murray Co. 0

The Heritage Lady Gen- erals got two goals from Anna Boley and Sophia Venable had two assists in a 5-0 win at Murray County this past Tuesday.

Venable assisted on one of Boley’s goals and also fed Allison Craft for a second-half goal. Boley returned the favor on a tally by Venable, while Emily Schoenborn also assisted on a Boley goal. Emma Tennyson accounted for the other score, which came on a rebound following an initial save by the Murray County keeper.

Lexi Besh had three saves for Heritage.

Heritage girls 3, North Murray 0

Besh needed just two saves to pick up the shut- out victory on Thursday.

Venable scored twice in the win, once off a throwin by Craft and once on a penalty kick after a handball call in the box against the Lady Mountainee­rs.

Venable also assisted on a goal by Boley as the Lady Generals moved to 4-1 on the young season.

Murray Co. boys 4, Heritage 1

The Generals’ lone goal against the Indians came off the foot of Sean McNulty, while no details on the match versus North Murray were available as of press time.

LaFayette girls 0, Armuchee 0

The Lady Ramblers fought to a scoreless tie last Monday at Armuchee to go to 0- 0- 2 on the season.

Railee Lynn had six saves in net for LaFayette, who took 19 shots on goal. Offensive standouts included Megan Wilson, Kailee Queen, Halle Alexander and Darsey Shields, while Bailey Tarvin, Ashton Stalling, Shelby Adkins, Bailey Myers and Caitlyn Watson earned praise for their defense.

LaFayette boys 2, Armuchee 2

The Ramblers also managed a tie with the Indians. No further informatio­n on the match was available as of press time.

LaFayette boys 1, Trion 0

The Ramblers got their first victory of the 2019 season with a hard-fought win at Trion on Thursday.

Ethan Kennedy provided the winning kick in the final minute of the match off of a superb assist from Julian Murray.

LaFayette (1-0-2) outshot the home team, 16-6, while sure-handed keeper Beau Thrash had two saves in goal for the Orange-and-Black.

The Lady Ramblers did not play on Thursday and have reschedule­d their match against Trion for this Wednesday, Feb. 20.
