LaFayette rebounds to win first two games of 2019

The LaFayette Lady Ramblers opened last week with a home loss to Ringgold, but bounced back with a road win at LFO before taking down Adairsvill­e back at home to even their record at 2-2 going into this new week. ing five earned runs on nine hits with a walk and three strikeouts in five innings of work. Nicky Yancy pitched the final two frames, allowing three earned on five hits and a walk with one strikeout.

One night later, LaFayette erupted for 10 unanswered runs over the final two innings in a big win in Fort Oglethorpe. Pettigrew threw two hitless innings of relief, striking out four batters to get the victory. Yancy went three innings, allowing two earned runs on five hits and two walks with one strikeout.

Lynn and Howell each went 3-for4 in the Lady Ramblers’ 16-hit attack. Ashley, Yancy, Adkins and Summer Burkett all had two hits each. Pettigrew and Ashley matched Burkett with two RBIs, while Adkins, Lynn and Corbin also drove in one run apiece.

Haley Stahl took the loss for LFO. She surrendere­d nine earned runs in five innings with two walks and one strikeout. Stahl and Skyler Ellis each had a double and an RBI for LFO, who had just five hits on the afternoon.

Pettigrew’s grand slam in the bottom of the fourth on Thursday capped a sixrun inning and erased a 5-1 deficit. All six runs would come home with two outs. Yancy walked with the bases full to plate a run and Ashley delivered an RBI-single. Adkins had an RBI-double in the bottom of the first and Yancy picked up a second RBI in the sixth.

Howell went 3-for-3 with a walk and scored three times in the win. Pettigrew got the win in relief, shutting out the Lady Tigers on just one hit over the final 3.1 innings. She gave up two walks and struck out four batters. Yancy pitched the first 3.2 innings, allowing five unearned runs on five hits with three strikeouts.
