Gordon Lee bests Ringgold in early-season showdown

An early-season showdown between two favorites in their respective regions took place in Chickamaug­a last Tuesday night and it was host Gordon Lee who flexed its muscles in a straightse­ts victory over Ringgold, 25-11 and 25-11.

Gordon Lee took a 12-9 lead at the midway point of the opening game when they ran off 10 consecutiv­e points to blow things wide open. Ringgold would go up 5-3 early in the second game, only to see Gordon Lee fight back tie the score at 7-7. However, the Lady Trojans would take over from there, reeling off 16 of the next 17 points as they raced to the victory and the sweep in the non-region clash.

Brooklyn Hudson led the Lady Trojans (1-0) with six kills. Casey Wilson finished with four kills and Lee picked up two kills and a pair of blocks. M.K. Roberts had eight assists and seven digs in the match, while Sally Thomison and Madison Mayberry each collected four digs.

Individual statistics for Ringgold were not available as of press time.

The Lady Tigers shook off the loss by taking down Dade County in straight sets in a best-of-five match in Trenton on Thursday, 28-26, 25-21 and 25-14.

Melanie Severns had a big night with eight kills, three blocks, two digs and two aces, while Sydney Pittman added eight kills and two blocks. Bethany Thomason had four kills and three aces with Zoie Metcalf adding one kill, one ace, two digs and 23 assists from her setter position.

Abby Roach picked up two kills and a block. Jasley Brooks had three aces and a kill, while Emily Ridley added three aces and a dig. Gracie Milford (one kill, one dig, two aces) and Meredith Fowler (one ace) rounded out the stat sheet for Ringgold (1-1).

The Lady Panthers hosted the visitors from Whitfield County in a best-of-three match in Rossville on Thursday night and swept the Lady Catamounts, 25-11, 2522 and 25-16, to move to 1-0 on the year.

Jayda Jenkins had a big night with 14 kills to go with four aces. Justice Devlin picked up seven kills and two blocks. Sarah Williams added four kills and four aces. Landree Dunn had three kills, while Kailey Boulware served up five assists to go with 15 assists.

Brylee Durham added 11 digs, two assists and an ace. Isabella Allen had nine assists. Natalee McClain picked up four aces, three kills and a dig. Bailey Fowler added one dig and Asia Silmon recorded one kill.

The Lady Generals traveled to south on Thursday and returned to Boynton with a pair of straightse­t victories over Model and host Chattooga in their season openers.

In the first match against Model, Morgan Trotter had a dozen kills and Trinity Ha had 14 digs in a 25-13, 25-22 victory. Lauren Francis had four kills, five aces and 13 assists in the win.

Heritage (2-0) polished off the evening by beating the Lady Indians by identical 25-9 scores. Francis had three kills, five aces and six assists, while Kallie Carter finished with six kills.
