LaFayette boys on cusp of No. 1 seed in 6-AAAA

The LaFayette Ramblers moved to 17-2 overall and stayed unbeaten at 9-0 in Region 6-AAAA play after a pair of big roads wins last week.

LaFayette boys 78, Northwest 66

The Ramblers had three players record double-doubles in the victory as they completed the season sweep of the Bruins last Tuesday.

Aidan Hadaway continued his impressive season with 23 points and 12 rebounds. Decameron Porter had 20 points and 11 rebounds. Asa Deal had 11 points and 12 boards. Junior Barber also scored a dozen points and Jaylon Ramsey finished with seven assists.

LaFayette boys 61, Pickens 33

Hadaway stayed hot with 25 more points and 14 more rebounds, while Porter also grabbed 14 boards to go with his 11 points as the Ramblers led 35-16 at intermissi­on before smothering the Dragons in Jasper on Friday.

Barber poured in 18 points in the win, followed by Ramsey with nine and Deal with four. LaFayette entered the new week needing a win over Southeast Whitfield on Tuesday to clinch the No. 1 seed for the 6-AAAA tournament.

Northwest girls 57, LaFayette 45

The Lady Ramblers saw a five-game winning streak snapped in a loss to the Lady Bruins last Tuesday.

Mykeria Johnson scored a gamehigh 13 points for LaFayette to go with five rebounds, three assists and four blocks. LaTyah Barber had 11 points and five steals. Marquila Howell collected eight points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Nicky Yancy had six points and eight boards, while Heather Tucker and Haven Yancy both finished with two points each.

Pickens girls 59, LaFayette 56

The Lady Ramblers put on a furious comeback over the final three quarters after finding themselves in a 23-8 hole after the first quarter on Friday. However, it would not be enough as the Dragonette­s would hang on for the win.

Barber had 17 points, seven rebounds, three assists and four steals for the Lady Ramblers in the loss. Howell had 14 points and seven rebounds. Johnson had nine points, while Imani Cook had six points and a team-high 10 rebounds.

Four points, five rebounds and three steals from Nicky Yancy, four points from Tucker and two points and three boards from Haven Yancy rounded out the stats for LaFayette (11-8, 4-5).
