Brody Cobb, who was named as the 2021 Walker County baseball player of the year earlier this month, received a huge honor last week as he was named to the MaxPreps small school All-American first-team.

The recent Gordon Lee graduate, who was the Region 6-A Player of the Year and a first team All-State selection, hit .446 for the Trojans in 2021. He hit 10 doubles and two triples, scored 49 runs, drove in 61 more and belted 13 homeruns, tying him for the most in the state and ninth-most nationally, according to stats complied by MaxPreps.

Cobb, who also helped Gordon Lee to the Class A Public School state finals, was one of only three catchers named to the first team, joining Jedier Hernandez of New Jersey’s Trenton Catholic Academy and Jayden

Melendez of Miami, Florida’s Westminster Christian.

Langford finishes second in Mississippi

Rising junior golfer Grant Langford placed second overall in the Pros of Tomorrow tournament in Tupelo, Miss. early last week.

The LaFayette High School standout opened the tournament with a 71 before shooting a 76 in the final round of the 36-hole event. That also included a birdie on the final hole, which forced tournament champion John Mark Mills of Pontotoc, Miss. to make a final par to seal a oneshot victory.

The 2021 Walker County Boys’ Golfer of the Year finished 3-over par for the tournament and held off Grayson Lockhart of Starkville, Miss. by one shot. Langford was the only golfer from Georgia in the 39-player field.
