Mocs to begin 2021 season ranked in Top 25

- From Press Release

The summer continues to roll along with FCS preseason polls coming out.

The Mocs were picked 20th in the first poll of the summer, the Athlon Sports FCS Top 25. HeroSports.com agrees with that assessment with Chattanooga in between HBCU’s North Carolina A&T in 19th and Alcorn State in 21st.

There are three Southern Conference schools mentioned with VMI tied for 13th, while ETSU slots in tied for 23rd. Homeopening opponent Austin Peay is 18th, up from 23rd per Athlon.

The 2020-21 campaign saw the squad post a 3-2 overall mark, 3-1 in the Southern Conference, before it came to an abrupt end due to COVID-19. All 11 starters are back on offense with additional depth apparent with the number of backups that got extended looks.

Jacobs Blocking Award winner Cole Strange anchors an offensive line that has three different running backs behind it with collegiate 100-yard games. Ditto on defense which was dominant with All-America defensive lineman Devonnsha Maxwell headlining the crew.

The Mocs are readying for the 2021 fall campaign. Home games await against Austin Peay, Western Carolina, ETSU, Furman and The Citadel. The season begins on Thursday, Sept. 2, with a visit from the Austin Peay Governors. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

Tickets are available by calling (423) 266MOCS (6627) or online at GoMocs.com. Fans also can go through the GoMocs app, available on Android and Apple IOS devices in their respective app stores.
