Heritage girls finish third in 7-AAAA

The Heritage Lady Generals rolled into the Region 7-AAAA semifinals with a 59-15 victory over Ridgeland last Monday night at Northwest Whitfield High School.

With the win, third-seeded Heritage punched its ticket to the Class AAAA state tournament.

The Navy-and-Red took control from the opening tip, leading sixth-seeded Ridgeland 13-3 after the opening quarter and 33-10 at intermissi­on.

Macie Collins had a season-high 18 points. Brooke Matherly added 10 and Lauren Mock finished with nine. Gracie Murray and Bree Wilson each scored seven points. Aaliyah Rodgers finished with six and Kortney McKenzie added two.

The Lady Panthers got five points from Madison Lennon, four from McKensie Miller, three by Cordasia Watkins, two by Emma Fowler and one from Camby Arthur. Their season ended with a 6-20 overall record.

NORTHWEST GIRLS 39, HERITAGE 32

After splitting their two

regular season meetings, the second-seeded Lady Bruins took the rubber match against the Lady Generals in a region semifinal game

in Tunnell Hill this past Thursday.

Northwest led by three at halftime and added to its advantage in the fourth behind a game-high 14 points from Whitley Chumley.

Murray, Mock and Collins all had eight points each for Heritage. Matherly scored three points. Rodgers and McKenzie had two points apiece, while Riley Kokinda added one.

HERITAGE GIRLS 51, CENTRAL-CARROLL 36

Heritage earned the No. 3 seed from the region with a win over the fourth-seeded Lady Lions in the tournament’s consolatio­n game Friday afternoon.

Heritage jumped out to a 16-6 lead after the first quarter, enjoyed a 28-15 lead at intermissi­on, and extended it to a 37-19 cushion going into the fourth.

Mock and Murray had 10 points each for the Navy-and-Red. Rodgers finished with nine points, while Collins and McKenzie finished with seven apiece. The scoring was rounded out by three points from Katie Coke, two each by Wilson and Matherly, and one from Renee Weldon.

Heritage (18-9) was slated to open the Class AAAA state tournament early this week on the road at Region 5-AAAA runner-up Fayette County (16-10).
