Leverrett tallies four as Lady Warriors earn first win

The LFO varsity soccer teams enjoyed a successful start to the Region 6-AAA portion of their slate Wednesday night with a sweep of Rockmart in a pair of very close contests.

LFO GIRLS 4, ROCKMART 3

Senior Emma Leverrett knocked home all four goals for the Lady Warriors, who improved to 1-3 overall and 1-0 in region play. Anesa Merdzo had two assists, while Presley Piatt and Mari Jiminez had one assist apiece. Sadie Robinson came up 14 big saves to preserve the win.

LFO BOYS 2, ROCKMART 1

The Warriors took a 1-0 lead at intermissi­on, only to see the Jackets rally for the equalizer in the second half.

But in the overtime session, LFO broke through again and kept Rockmart off the board the rest of the way to move to 1-1-1 overall and 1-0 in 6-AAA. Stiven Galicia scored both goals for the Warriors in their first victory of the season.

RIDGELAND BOYS 3, DADE COUNTY 1

The Panthers picked up their first victory of the 2022 season with a win in Trenton last Tuesday night.

Liam Kenney got the Black-andWhite on the board in the 26th minute off an assist from Pedro Morales and the score would remain 1-0 through halftime.

The Wolverines answered in the 62nd minute, but the tie would be short-lived as Ever Carvajal connected on a penalty kick just three minutes later to put Ridgeland back in front. Carvajal added an unassisted goal in the 77th minute to put it away.

Ridgeland (1-2-1) finished with four shots on goal.

RIDGELAND GIRLS 1, DADE COUNTY 1

Betsy Hixson had the lone goal for the Lady Panthers (3-1-1) in the first match last Tuesday. Her tally came in the 43rd minute on a long shot from outside the box that got over the keeper’s head, while Dade County tied it up in the 53rd following a corner kick.

Both teams saw one additional goal each disallowed by fouls later in the second half.

Maria Ronda and Ragan Wimpee each had two shots on goal, while BreeAnna Ledford, Deborah Guiterrez and CarrieAnne Hill added one apiece.

Hannah Card had five saves in goal for the Lady Panthers, while head coach Nic Storr named Ivey Stargel as the Player of the Game. Among Stargel’s highlights was a goal line clearance early in the second half.

HERITAGE GIRLS 3, NORTH MURRAY 0

Freshman Zoie St. John earned her first high school hat trick and the Lady Generals moved to 3-0 on the season with a win in Chatsworth last Tuesday. Molly Cason, Lila Langston and Carol Anne Giannamore each had an assist in the victory.

It was also the third straight match in which a Heritage player had a hat trick. Langston netted one in each of their first two contests.

NORTH MURRAY BOYS 3, HERITAGE 0

The Generals were unable to complete the sweep, however, as the Mountainee­rs dealt them a defeat in the boys’ match. Heritage fell to 1-2-2 with the loss. No further informatio­n was available as of press time.

LAFAYETTE GIRLS 2, TRION 1

The Lady Ramblers improved to 3-0 on the season after a narrow home victory over Trion on a very cold night Jack King Stadium last Monday.

Shelby Madden scored off an assist by Channing Johnson, while Johnson netted her seventh goal of the season off a pass from Shelly Warren.

Madison Todd and Addi Hurt were praised by Coach Caleb Perry for their defensive tenaciousn­ess, and Laney Rayburn picked up seven more saves in goal.

LAFAYETTE JV BOYS 2, ADAIRSVILL­E 0

The Ramblers’ junior varsity

squad got second-half goals from Garren Kennedy and Kaden Miller to beat Adairsvill­e last Tuesday.

Jacob Hamilton was tabbed as a standout by head coach Chase Horne, while Jude Godfrey finished with a clean sheet in goal for the Ramblers.
