Trojans, Tigers, Generals off to fast starts

The LaFayette Ramblers scored four times in the top of the first inning last Tuesday, but surrendere­d eight runs in the bottom of the first as the Gordon Lee Trojans posted a 15-5, five-inning victory in Chickamaug­a.

Maddox Millard was 3 for 4 with two runs scored and three RBIs for the Trojans. Dustin Day went 2 for 4 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Landon Norton had a hit and knocked in two runs, while Kaden Ellis picked up an RBI.

Peyton Groce doubled and scored a run. Garrett Ross drew three walks, stole four bases and scored three times, while Easton Corbin and Layne Vaughn each had a hit for Gordon Lee. Corbin and Vaughn combined to score five runs.

Ross started the game on the mound for Gordon Lee and allowed one earned run on three hits and three walks. He struck out two batters. Norton pitched four innings of no-hit ball. He gave up an unearned run and a walk, but struck out six batters.

LaFayette got RBIs from Cale Sholtz, Hagen English and Josh Nasworthy, while Bryson Cleghorn, Luke Hopkins and Brennon Beavers had two hits each for the Ramblers.

Sholtz got the start and allowed four earned runs on five hits and four walks. Hopkins pitched the next two innings, allowing an earned run on a hit and six walks with one strikeout. Austin Dearing threw 1.1 innings, giving up two earned runs on three hits and a walk with two strikeouts.

GORDON LEE 19, ROSSVILLE 0

The Trojans got three RBIs apiece from Corbin and James

Davis in a three-inning victory at Rossville on Thursday.

Corbin was 3 for 3 with a triple and three runs scored, while Davis finished 2 for 3 at the plate. Groce also had two hits, including a triple, while he, Vaughn and Norton each drove in two runs.

Solo RBIs were recorded by Holden Robertson, Koltin Webb, Hurley McAlister and Brady Little as the Trojans (3-0 overall, 2-0 NGAC) collected 13 total hits.

Day and Corbin Curd each struck out three batters in their one inning of work. Davis also threw an inning, allowing a hit and striking out one batter.

The Bulldogs (0-2, 0-2) got a single and a stolen base from Brylin Woods. Eli Johnson started on the mound and allowed five hits and three walks. Kaiden Williams finished for Rossville.

He allowed eight hits and walked four batters in three innings, but also finished with four strikeouts.

HERITAGE 17, CHATTANOOG­A VALLEY 1

The Heritage Generals opened the 2022 baseball season with an NGAC league victory over Chattanoog­a Valley this past Wednesday.

Ayden Harmon was 4 for 4 with two singles, two doubles and two runs scored. Henry Allen reached base four times and scored three runs, while Jake Collett reached base three times with a pair of singles and one run scored.

Owen Carstens had a single, a double and scored three times, while Cody Bryan, Caden Strickland and Cohen Fletcher each had two singles and scored two runs.

Allen and Ty Hunt combined to strike out 10 Eagles

on the afternoon.

Chattanoog­a Valley (01) got its run in the first inning as Hagen Patterson singled and scored. Gavin Hughley also had a single for the Eagles.

HERITAGE 11, LAFAYETTE 1

Carstens and Strickland combined to allow just one run on no hits with eight strikeouts in a home win on Thursday.

The Generals led 2-0 going into the fourth inning, but the Ramblers cut the lead in half in the top part of the frame. Hopkins walked, stole second, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on an error.

However, Heritage (2-0, 2-0) responded with six runs in the bottom half of the inning to blow the game open.

Carstens and Allen each reached base three times and scored twice. Fletcher had two singles, a walk and scored twice. Bryan and Hunt each had doubles, while Strickland, Collett and Blake Debity each scored a run.

Beavers and Dearing pitched for LaFayette (02, 0-2).

RINGGOLD 13, ROSSVILLE 2

The Tigers scored at least two runs in every inning but the third in a victory at Rossville last Tuesday.

Logan Moore was 3 for 4 with a double, two runs scored and three RBIs. Braylee Raby went 2 for 4 with a double and one RBI and Haddon Fries was 2 for 4 with an RBI and four runs scored.

Rhett Blankenshi­p had a hit, an RBI and scored four times. Luke Raby was 1 for 3 with two runs knocked in, and Camden Denton was 1 for 3 and scored twice.

Colt Underdown pitched three innings of no-hit ball and struck out nine batters. Denton pitched two innings, giving up one run on a pair of walks with six strikeouts. Blake Johnson allowed a run on two walks, and Franklin Helsel struck out three in his one inning of relief.

Cody Davenport and Elijah Waters both scored for Rossville. Brandon Newport pitched 4.1 innings for the Bulldogs. He allowed just two earned runs on five hits and four walks and finished with eight strikeouts, while Caleb Burnett tossed 1.1 innings of relief. He surrendere­d four earned runs on five hits and five walks with two strikeouts.

RINGGOLD 14, DADE 4

A huge fourth inning broke open what had been a tight ball game and the Tigers (3-0 overall) improved to 2-0 in NGAC play with a five-inning victory over Dade on Thursday.

The Tigers held a slim 5-3 lead going into the bottom of the fourth when they erupted for nine runs. The Blue-andWhite also hit for the cycle during the inning.

Moore, Blankenshi­p and Easton Daniel each singled. Braylee Raby added a double. Moore had a triple in his second at-bat of the frame, while Denton also tripled. The inning was capped by a solo homer off the bat of Fries.

Moore finished 3 for 4 with three RBIs and four runs scored and Daniel was 2 for 2 with two RBIs. Blankenshi­p also drove in a pair of runs, while Luke Raby matched Fries and Braylee Raby with one RBI apiece.

Blankenshi­p pitched two innings of two-hit ball. He allowed three runs with only one being earned. He allowed two walks and finished with five strikeouts. Daniel closed it out with three innings of one-hit ball. The run he gave up was earned and he struck out five while walking only one.

RINGGOLD 14, CHRISTIAN HERITAGE 8

The Tigers scored five times in the top of the fourth and pushed across four more runs in the top of the sixth to pick up a victory over the Lions on Friday afternoon.

Blankenshi­p was 3 for 4 with three runs scored and one RBI. Braylee Raby went 2 for 3 with a double and three RBIs. Luke Raby was 2 for 3 with two runs scored and Blake Johnson had one hit and drove in two.

Solo RBIs were recorded by Moore, Fries, Denton and Daniel.

Moore, Helsel, Luke Raby and Kaiden Quick all pitched for Ringgold with Moore getting credit for the victory.
