County rivalries highlight middle school soccer slate

The Heritage Lady Generals are now 1-01 on the season after posting a 9-1 home win over Lakeview this past Thursday.

Aireanna Williams scored five times and Zoe Parham knocked home four goals for Heritage, while goalkeeper Ellie Kennedy made a pair of saves.

Other defensive standouts included Emma Alton, Kaidence Shoelen and Avery Tabor, according to head coach Mike Craft.

The individual goal scorer for Lakeview was not known as of press time.

HERITAGE BOYS 1, LAKEVIEW 1

The opening boys’ match ended in a draw. Cruz Jackson had the lone goal for the Generals (0-0-2) on a penalty kick, while the individual goal scorer for the Warriors was not known as of press time.

TRION GIRLS 5, ROSSVILLE 2

The Lady Bulldogs played evenly with Trion on Thursday afternoon, but could not overcome a 3-0 halftime deficit.

Naomi Dawson made a run into the box and hammered home a shot for Rossville’s first goal, while Briannah Carson tallied the second on a 20-yard chip shot that got over the keeper’s head.

Head coach Danielle Ellis acknowledg­ed the determined play of standouts McKenzey Moore, Bella Britton, Kiernan Hicks, Jaden Rader, and Bailey Dye.

The Trion boys won the night’s other match, 6-0. No more informatio­n had been reported as of press time.

SADDLE RIDGE GIRLS 1, LAFAYETTE 0

Potential future teammates squared off in south Walker County this past Thursday night as the Lady Mustangs slipped past the Lady Ramblers in LaFayette.

Lexi Underwood netted the only goal of the match, which came in the first half, while the Navy-and-Red went on to pitch the shutout behind Tamra Yancy’s two saves in goal.

Head coach Casey Payne named Ella Ferry and Alyssa Ball as defensive standouts, while giving Maddie Underwood and Cadha Lanier credit for anchoring the midfield.

LAFAYETTE BOYS 4, SADDLE RIDGE 3

In the boys’ match, Jayven Williams had a hat trick for the Ramblers and Levi Collins scored once in a Rambler victory. Aaron Crumbley had a pair of saves in goal to help secure the win.

Saddle Ridge rallied in the second half after trailing 3-1 at intermissi­on.

Elijah Decker had two goals, including one on a penalty kick, to go with one assist. Harrison Gilstrap scored once on two shots on goal and Andrew Martin picked up an assist.

Josiah Womack made seven saves for the Mustangs, while defensive standouts included Collin Miller, Bently Wilson and Eli Pearson, according to head coach Zach Cleghorn.

SADDLE RIDGE GIRLS 3, CHATTANOOG­A VALLEY 0

The Lady Mustangs got a pair of goals from Lanier in a road win in Flintstone last Monday. Presley Walker found the net on the other goal, while Yancy made three saves in net to preserve the victory.

Lexi Underwood, Maddie Underwood, along with Caylah Plank and Parker Lawrence, were named as standouts.

SADDLE RIDGE BOYS 7, CHATTANOOG­A VALLEY 2

Decker booted home four goals and added one assist as the Mustangs made it a sweep. Gilstrap scored twice and assisted on another goal, while Martin added one goal and one assist in the win.

Defensive standouts included Miller, Wilson, George Sholtz, Caleb Pearson and Eli Pearson.

George Bednar and Brody Martin each scored once for the Eagles.
