Warriors close out tough week on positive note

- By Scott Herpst

The LFO Warriors suffered their first two Region 6-AAA losses of the season early last week, but rebounded with a non-region victory to end the skid.

ROCKMART 10, LFO 0

Last Monday night, the Warriors were unable to figure out Jacket pitcher Trevor Caldwell, who allowed a lone single to Tanner Mantooth, while fanning 11 and walking one.

Rockmart led 3-0 going into the top of the sixth inning when they put up seven runs on five hits, including a three-run triple. They also took advantage of two walks, an error and a wild pitch in the inning.

Will Carroll started on the mound for LFO and worked the first three frames. He gave up three runs — one earned — on three hits and three walks with two strikeouts. Dylan Blankenship pitched 2.1 innings, allowing five earned runs on four hits with three walks and three strikeouts. Eli Walker struck out one and gave up an earned run in two-thirds of an inning of relief.

ROCKMART 8, LFO 1

A change of scenery did little to help LFO’s cause last Tuesday night as a long drive to Rockmart ended with another region loss.

The Warriors fell behind 8-0 after four innings and scored their only run in the top of the sixth. Gabe Helton drew a walk and moved to second on a balk before tagging up to third on a fly ball. He scored moments later on a groundout off the bat of Tanner Mantooth.

Donnie Brown went 3.1 innings and gave up seven earned runs, striking out two and walking one. Mantooth pitched 2.2 solid innings of relief, allowing just one hit and one walk with one strikeout.

LFO 4, EAST HAMILTON 0

The Warriors belted two homers and surrendered just one hit in a non-region home victory on Thursday, snapping their two-game slide.

Blankenship drove in the first run of the game on an RBI-single in the first inning and Jacob Gregg led off the second with a solo homer. Carroll capped the scoring with a two-run shot in the fourth.

Mantooth pitched the first six innings and gave up one hit and five walks, while finishing with seven strikeouts. Blankenship fanned one batter in one inning of relief.

Chris Kelley was 2 for 2 with a run scored for LFO, while Walker and Helton also singled.

LFO (8-6, 2-2) was slated to get back to region play on Tuesday of this week with a road game at Adairsville.
