ZOIE ST. JOHN HERITAGE, SOPH. 2022 CATOOSA GIRLS’ XC RUNNER OF THE YEAR

After breaking out as a freshman last season, St. John continued to set the pace for the Heritage Lady Generals as a sophomore. Now a two-time Catoosa County Girls XC Runner of the Year, she finished the fall with five top 10 finishes, including a win at the Rambler Invitational and fourth place at the Region 7-4A meet on her own home course with a season-best time of 21:50. That mark helped Heritage to a third-place finish at the meet and another trip to the Class 4A State Championships in Carrollton.

KALE DAVIS RINGGOLD, SR. 2022 CATOOSA BOYS’ XC RUNNER OF THE YEAR

A year after setting the pace for the Tigers, Davis stepped up his game even more in his senior season at Ringgold. He ran under 19:00 in each of his final five races, including the Class 3A state finals where he qualified as an individual. His best time of the season came during an NGXCL race in Dalton, where he crossed the line in a time of 18:02. He went on to finish fifth at the Region 6-3A Championships in LaFayette (18:18) before posting an 18:49 at Class 3A State Championships.

HALEY HARTMAN GORDON LEE, SENIOR 2022 WALKER GIRLS’ XC CO-RUNNER OF THE YEAR

Following the graduation of Georgia signee Gracie O’Neal, Hartman took over the mantle for the Lady Trojans as team leader and has been worthy of the title ever since. Winning a share of the Walker County Girls’ XC Runner of the Year award for the second time, the senior got her team to state for the first time as a Class 3A program with five top 10’s, a win at the Walker County meet and a fourth-place showing in Region 6-3A. Her season-best of 22:04 at the Fast Break Challenge at Heritage was also a personal record.

MADISON TODD LaFAYETTE, SENIOR 2022 WALKER GIRLS’ XC CO-RUNNER OF THE YEAR

Arguably LaFayette’s most consistent runner for the past four seasons, the senior was one of the best in the area in 2022. Earning a share of her first Walker County Girls’ XC Runner of the Year award, she finished ninth overall in the NGXCL standings and had five top 10 finishes overall. She was runner-up at the Walker County and Region 6-3A Championships and third at the Rambler Invitational, where she clocked a season-best 22:10. She also helped the Lady Ramblers to a spot in the Class 3A state meet.

TUCKER HENDERSON

LAFAYETTE, JR.

2022 WALKER BOYS’ XC RUNNER OF THE YEAR

It was another record-breaking season for the junior that included five wins and top three finishes leading up to state, where he finished 18th overall — his bestever showing in Carrollton. Now a two-time NGXCL champion and a three-time Walker County Boys’ XC Runner of the Year, he ran 18:00 or faster seven times and won another county championship, another Region 6-3A title and set a new personal record of 16:37 during the Fast Break Challenge at Heritage in mid-October.
