Honey + June opens its doors in LaFayette

- From staff reports

As if the pink door of the building and the hand-painted flowers on the windows aren’t inviting enough, LaFayette’s newest brickand-mortar business also offers service with a smile.

The smile comes from owner Hannah Long as she greets customers in person at Honey + June (112 W. Villanow St., LaFayette), which held its grand opening on April 14. The grand opening featured doorbuster sales, refreshments and giveaways.

Two days before the grand opening, Long, along with family and friends, were busy putting the final finishing touches on a store she said she couldn’t have dreamed of owning a little less than four years after graduating from LaFayette High School.

“My senior year (2020), I knew that I wanted to do a women’s boutique,” she recalled. “I went and got a business degree and, in the meantime, I opened up an online boutique and ended up doing that for two or three years. Then I was given an opportunity to become a vendor inside of a local boutique here in (LaFayette).”

“However, a few weeks ago, the opportunity was given to me to purchase and open my own storefront location,” she added, admitting to some butterflies. “But I am very proud and just excited to see where it goes.”

The 1,300-square foot store features women’s clothes, accessories, shoes, bags and, as Long puts it “really just a little bit of everything”.

“I hope that it’s a place for women to come in and find trendy and affordable clothing at a good price point,” she said.

As for the name? “I’ve always loved the name ‘Honey’ and I felt like it had a tie to our little small town, so I knew I wanted ‘Honey’ in the name,” she explained. “Then my husband (Andrew) and I just sort of bounced other names off of it to see what would fit and we finally came across ‘Honey + June’ and we just fell in love with it.

“My husband has been a huge help. He works 40 hours a week, but still comes in during his off time every time to help me. My parents have been a huge help too, as have my in-laws and a few special church friends and family members.”

Honey + June is open on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.. Customers can also follow the store on Facebook at “Honey + June.”
