Oakwood Christian took a 2-0 lead into the bottom of the third inning this past Thursday, but gave up seven runs over the next two innings and eventually dropped a 9-4 decision at Excel Christian.

Ryan Davis drove in a run with a groundout in the top of the first, while Trey Tindell added to the lead with an RBI-single.

However, the home team scored twice in the bottom of the third and added five more runs in the bottom of the fourth.

Tindell had an RBI-double in the top of the fifth and Tanner Davis drove in a run with a sacrifice fly, but Excel got both of the runs back in the bottom of the fifth and went on to the victory.

Tindell went 3 for 4 with two RBIs and Jayden Patterson had two hits and scored once. Tindell, Ryan Davis and Tanner Davis combined to allow six earned runs over six innings on nine hits and five walks with nine strikeouts. Oakwood hurt itself with six errors, while Excel played errorless ball.

OAKWOOD CHRISTIAN 6, HEARTS ACADEMY 3

The Eagles traveled to Powder Springs on Saturday for a make-up contest and moved to 8-4 on the season with the victory.

Patterson, the leadoff hitter, was the catalyst all day. He went 3 for 4, drew a walk, stole four bases and scored three times.

OCA jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Tanner Davis and Ryan Phillips drew walks with the bases loaded with an RBI-single by Nick Yearout in between.

Patterson scored on a Ryan Davis RBIsingle in the top of the second and came around again in the top of the fourth on an RBI-single by Tindell. A sacrifice fly by Tanner Davis in the top of the sixth capped scoring for the Eagles.

Ryan Davis was 2 for 4 and scored once, while Tindell finished the day 3 for 3. Tindell also pitched six innings and allowed one earned run on three hits and four walks with seven strikeouts. Ryan Davis pitched an inning of relief, walking one and striking out another to get the save.

Oakwood was slated for one final make-up game on Monday of this week — at Unity Christian — to complete the regular season. Results were unavailable as of press time. That game will be the Eagles’ final preparation before the GAPPS state tournament.
