Oakwood breaks through on links

The Oakwood Christian Middle School golf team picked up its first victory of the season last Monday during its last regular season match.

Taking on Tennessee Christian Prep School in a head-to-head contest, the Eagles had two of the three lowest scores on the day and three of the five lowest scores on the day as they beat the Hawks from Cleveland, 192-203, in a nine-hole match at Moccasin Bend Golf Club in Chattanoog­a.

Noah Sullivan was runner-up for low medalist on the day with a 44, while Colby Samples was third overall with a 46. Sam Pickard had the fifth-lowest score on the day with a 49 and Thai Sprayberry carded a 53. Anna Ryan also played for Oakwood and finished with a 57.

The ISC conference tournament will be played at Flagstone Golf Club in Cleveland this Friday.

GORDON LEE WINS IN LAFAYETTE

At the LaFayette Golf Course last Monday, the Trojans got a pair of 45’s from Rob Ashley and Brooks Honeycutt as they defeated three other teams in a nine-hole match.

Drew Cauthorn shot a 49 and Anaston Cordell added a 51 as Gordon Lee ended the day with a score of 190 to earn a seven-shot victory. Brady Gill and Jace White also teed it up for the Trojans and posted a pair of 59’s.

Saddle Ridge finished second at 197 behind a personal-best and school record nine-hole score of 40 by Lyla Silecchia. Gregory Hobbs (51) and Briley Wilson (52) also posted personal-bests, while Haegan Hodge (54), Emory Beck (56) and Drew Harris (62) also played for the Mustangs.

Trion finished with a 201 on the day, while Dade shot 205.

Three scores in the 40’s, including a 49 by Sam Pickard, gave Oakwood Christian Middle School their first win of the season last week. The Eagles will compete in the 2024 ISC tournament this Friday in Cleveland, Tenn.

HERITAGE CLAIMS HEAD-TO-HEAD WIN

The Heritage and Gordon Lee Middle School golf teams faced off in a nine-hole match at Brown Acres Golf Course in Chattanoog­a last Tuesday and it was the Generals posting the 195-226 win.

Henry Nance was the day’s low medalist with a solid score of 44. Lane Redwine had a 49, while Chance Beene and Aden Williams each carded a 51.

Shiloh Brown fired a 55 for the Trojans, followed by Luke McBryar with a 59, Cam Gasaway with a 60 and Maggie Laurent with a 62.
