Campbell sets mark in Waynesfield- Goshen win
WAYNESFIELD — The Waynesfield- Goshen boys not only got their first win of 2020 on Saturday, but saw one player reach a major milestone.
The Tigers defeated visiting Calvary Christian 70- 55 in nonleague play. Senior Layton Campbell scored his 1,000th career point as part of his game- high 22 on the night.
Za’mere Daniel and Jayden Elliott each scored 14 points and Hyatt Kaufman had 11.
Calvary had a 10- 8 lead after the first eight minutes of play. Daniel had four points, Campbell and Elliott had one basket each.
Each team scored 13 points in the second quarter, with Calvary holding a 23- 21 lead at the half. Daniel scored seven points. Campbell, Blake Barnes and Kaufman each made one shot from the floor.
The Tigers took control in the third, doubling their point total and holding Calvary to eight points. Campbell hit four shots, one from 3- point range, for nine. Kaufman and Elliott each had four points, Barnes made a 3- pointer and Daniel added a free throw. W- G now led
42- 31.
The fourth quarter kept the scorer’s table busy, with WaynesfieldGoshen scoring 28 and Calvary putting up 24 as W- G collected the 15- point victory. Campbell had nine points and Elliott scored eight. Kaufman
added five. Barnes, Daniel and Travis Nanchoff each made one shot for W- G.
Waynesfield- Goshen is now 1- 5 on the year.
