Botkins girls rout Fairlawn; W- G falls to Cory Rawson

FAIRLAWN — The Botkins girls basketball team had no trouble with long distance connection­s.

The Lady Trojans hit a team- record 10 3- pointers as they defeated Fairlawn 61- 30 in Shelby County League play on Saturday.

Makenna Maurer had five of those treys and was the high scorer with 17 points. Camdyn Paul had 11 and Carmen Heuker scored 10.

Botkins jumped out to a 17- 4 lead in the first quarter. Heuker had five points. Maurer

and Boston Paul made 3- pointers. Camdyn Paul, Jill Greve and Aleah Johnson hit shots from the floor as well.

In the second, Botkins scored 20 points. Maurer made three from long range. Paul had nine points, with one 3- pointer. Maurer also had two points. The defense allowed no field goals, with Fairlawn hitting two free throws. At the half, Botkins led 37- 6.

The Lady Trojans scored 17 in the third, with five by Maurer and Heuker, four from Greve and a three by Boston Paul.

The Lady Jets scored over half their points in the fourth quarter, but it only slightly reduced the final margin. Lydia Dietz hit a 3- pointer to set the record.

Botkins ( 3- 2 SCAL, 5- 2 overall) will travel to Ansonia today.

WAYNESFIEL­D — The Waynesfiel­d- Goshen girls lost to Cory Rawson in a nonleague contest on Saturday morning.

Jordan Elliott had 16 and Rylie Barrington scored 11 for the Lady Tigers.

The Lady Hornets took a 17- 6 lead in the first period. Eliott and

Barrington each had a basket and free throw for W- G.

Waynesfiel­d- Goshen outscored C- R by four points in the second, making it 28- 21 at the half. Elliott had seven points, Barrington scored four, and Zaria Deleon had two. Taylor Spencer and Chloe Baumgarder each hit a free throw.

The visitors outscored W- G by six points in the third to make it 42- 29. Elliott had four, while Barrington and Deleon had two apiece.

The fourth saw Cory Rawson add 16 points to W- G’s 10. Spencer and Kapri Wilson connected on 3- pointers.

Barrington hit a basket and Elliott sank two free throws.

Waynesfiel­d- Goshen ( 0- 1 NWCC, 0- 6 overall) will host Shawnee on Tuesday.
