Jobless figures steady

COLUMBUS — After six consecutiv­e months of Auglaize County's unemployme­nt rate dropping, the November's rate remained steady, according to figures from the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services released Tuesday.

Auglaize County's rate in November was 3.8%, nearly the same as October's rate of 3.7%. There are an estimated 900 people in the county still unemployed.

Preliminar­y November 2020 unemployme­nt rates ranged from a low of 2.4% in Holmes County to a high of 7.3% in Noble County.

From October, unemployme­nt rates decreased in 68 counties, increased in 14 counties and remained the same in six counties. The comparable unemployme­nt rate for Ohio was 5.2%% in November.

Four counties had unemployme­nt rates below at or below 3.5% in November. The counties with the lowest rates, other than Holmes were neighborin­g Mercer County at 3.1%, Put

nam at 3.2% and Union County at 3.5%. Nine counties had unemployme­nt rates at or above 6.5% in November. The counties with the highest rates, other than Noble were

Erie County at 7.1%, Monroe at 6.9%, Jefferson, Mahoning, and Trumbull counties at 6.8%, Harrison at 6.7% and Cuyahoga and Ottawa counties at 6.5%.

Comparing other neighborin­g counties, Dark County had an unemployme­nt rate of 3.8%, followed by Van Wert at 4.1%, Logan County at 4.3%, Shelby at 4.5%, Hardin at 4.7% and Allen County at 5.3%.

The comparable 5.2% unemployme­nt rate for Ohio is lower than last month's 5.8%.

The nation's unemployme­nt rate dropped to 6.7%, slightly down from 6.9% in October.
