Wiesemayer will serve as county's interim public defender

The Auglaize County Public Defender’s Commission Chair Jason This said they will be appointing Attorney Robert Wiesenmayer, II as Interim Auglaize County Public Defender for a period of 6 months. Ohio Revised Code allows the commission to appoint a public defender for a term not exceed four years.

“It is our hope that this short-term appointment will allow for a smooth transition. Attorney Wiesenmayer is not interested in the full time position, but has been with the public defender's office for over 11 years and brings a wealth of expertise. Rob will be able to manage the office during this period,” This said.

This also acknowledged Gerald Siesel’s retirement in the statement below.

“On behalf of my fellow members of the Auglaize County Public Defender Commission, it is with regret and reluctance, that our commission has accepted the resignation of Gerald F. Siesel as County Public Defender effective Jan. 21, 2021. We understand that all things must end, but the ccommission recognizes the contributions of Jerry to the position and the practice of law. It is a tough decision for Jerry, but it will be an even tougher task to replace Jerry. Gerald F. Siesel has been practicing as a public defender since 1981, almost 39 years. Jerry has been the Public Defender for Auglaize County since 2010, a position he has held for over 10 years. In that time, we have come to appreciate Jerry as both an attorney and a person. He has great compassion for the practice of the law and he has a dedication and compassion for the clients that he serves. We will miss

Jerry and we wish him well in his retirement,“This said.

The commission will advertise for applicants to determine the best-qualified candidate for the position and to make a decision during that period.

“It is our hope to acquire a candidate for this position with the same ideals and dedication that Jerry has shown for the position, and will consider qualified applicants currently within our office and other applicants who may apply.
