County engineer plans to retire

- BY BOB TOMASZEWSKI STAFF WRITER

Auglaize County commissioners on Tuesday accepted Doug Reinhart’s letter announcing plans to step down as county engineer after more than 37 years as engineer and nine years as the assistant county engineer. He is the longest serving county employee.

Reinhart has been planning to retire for awhile, and has made it evident who he wants to succeed him. He plans to retire on Aug. 18, which comes shortly after Bridge Engineer and County Engineer Andrew Baumer passed tests for his engineering license.

“I could not be happier to inform the board that the Assistant County Engineer Andrew Buamer has successfully obtained both professional licenses and wishes to be your next county engineer. Andrew began working for the department as a summer intern while attending Ohio Northern University and has nine years of experience,” Reinhart said in his letter. “He is not only a brilliant young man, but also exhibits a great deal of common sense. I am asking the board of County Commissioners to appoint Andrew Baumer as my replacement until the Republican Central Committee makes their appointment to fill the vacancy.”

Reinhart will also be stepping down as Sanitary Engineer, Flood Plain Coordinator, and GIS Administrator. He recommended Baumer be appointed to fill those roles as well given his background.

In closing, Reinhart said, “It has been an honor to serve the citizens of Auglaize County.”
