Area students earn scholarships from ag equipment retailer
URBANA - Farmers Equipment has selected 36 students to receive its “Invest in Our Future” scholarships. The agricultural equipment retailer more than doubled the
number of student scholarship recipients from last year.
“We want to celebrate local 4-H and FFA student members for their
educational achievements as well as their continual involvement in their communities,” said Dave Snyder, Farmers Equipment general manager.
Two students were selected from each of the 18 counties that Farmers Equipment serves: Allen, Auglaize,
Champaign, Clark, Hardin, Logan, Putnam, Shelby, Union, Hancock, Wyandot, Seneca, Van Wert, Paulding, Columbiana, Carroll, Mahoning, and Sandusky counties.
The scholarships are intended to support local 4-H and/or FFA members who are preparing to enter their first year of college. Recipients
of the $500 scholarships were selected
through an application process and were then evaluated based
upon academic achievement, extracurricular participation and community service.
Area students who were chosen for the scholarship include:
* Kort Sutherland, a graduate of Waynesfield-goshen High School. In the fall, he plans to attend Ohio Northern University to study agronomy. Sutherland is a member of National Honor Society, FFA, student government, and a varsity athlete.
* Gretchen Dwenger, a graduate of New Knoxville School. In the fall,
she plans to attend University of Findlay to study animal science.
Dwenger is a part of FFA, National Honor Society, student government and an athlete.
* Denton Homan, a graduate of Botkins Local School. In the fall, he plans to attend Black Hawk East to
study agribusiness. Homan is a member of FFA, National Honor Society, 4-H and is a varsity athlete.
* Kierstyn Oberdorf, a graduate of Houston High School. In the fall,
She plans to attend Louisiana State University to study animal science.
Oberdorf is a member of Girl Scouts, FFA, National Honor Society and is a student athlete.
* Evan Core, a graduate of Spencerville High School. In the fall, he plans to attend The Ohio State University, to study business administration. Core is a part of Spencerville FFA, National Honor Society and has had numerous volunteer activities.
* Gillian Goecke, a graduate of Spencerville High School. In the fall, she plans to attend Ohio University to study biological sciences. Goecke
has been a part of 4-H for 10 years, National Honor Society, and a varsity athlete.
